Have been working with CamLocks for the past 35 years. I personally would go with them over any other type of quick connect fitting. One thing I would do is go with the brass option. Plastic does not hold up in areas that you can bump stuff with. Aluminum has a tendency to have electrolysis...

The 2012 model works great on my flooded batts, they make the 2012 for AGMs as well.
Can you take the cover plate off the fuel pump mount? That way you can pull the rod out and make sure it is in one piece. That way you will know for sure. I doubt that the rod would have broken given it contacts the fuel pump actuator (lever) which is pressed metal. It would have to have been in...
