    Hard starting CUCV's

the air bleeder or water drain? I noticed the TM drawing shows a seal for the air bleeder which mine doesn't have. I wrapped some teflon tape around the threads for good measure and it seems OK. The air leak is deifnately under the hood. I used tygon clear fuel tubing for all the replacement...

Dash light bulbs - LED replacement

For what its worth: I took my entire panel apart for a good cleaning. Dust was on everything, even the sealed areas behind the Gen1&2 and 4x4 lights. None of the bulbs were out though I thought they all were. Truck may have been in Iraq at some point...thats about the only place I can see...

    Hard starting CUCV's

None? I had various 1/4 ratchet swivels and u-joints trying to get the hoseclamp on the IP intake. After I dropped one on the engine I was fishing around for it and realized that I could get my hand back there. But I may have spoke to soon about that fixing the hard-start. It came back...

Air shocks for small lift ?

So after checking out a very nice looking M1009 sporting 33x12.5 tires and reading this site, I think I need to ensure a bit more clearance and firm up my sagging leaf springs. I suppose the "pure" option is to buy a 2" spring lift pack for the front but part of me doesn't want the stiffness...

    Hard starting CUCV's

To throw in my $0.02: I had hard starting issues that seemed to relate to temperature. The real culprit was air getting into the fuel system. Cranking a bit then cracking the bleeder on the filter housing got it started. After replacing all the rubber fuel lines under the hood I found the...

Question about adding an electric fuel pump

Can I ask where you connect the supply hose to bypass? A)At the threaded fitting comming out of the pump B) at the input nipple of the filter C) Other

Air intake heating grid - anyone tried?

Was thinking about using it in conjunction with GPs, probably just wire it up with a manual switch off the rear battery. Something to help the GPs out when its real cold or as a backup system. Basically for emergencies only but if it helps with smooth starts and doesn't kill the battery too...

Air intake heating grid - anyone tried?

Has anyone tried a wire heating element for the air intake on their CUCV? I guess some models of the dodge cummins engines used this to pre-heat the air for easier starting. If it works, it seems like a better option than a block heater since it can use the vehicle's battery for power and...

How many temp sensors/switches on '09

In looking through the TMs to debug my hard start issues I keep running across temp sensors and switches that all appear in different places. Exactly how many are there? Does the GP controller use the same one that the idiot light does? What about the cold advance switch? i can't tell if...

    What would melt this wire

I read on CUCV electric's site that a fuseable link is a section of wire 4 gauge sizes above what you're trying to fuse. So a 8 ga. wire would use a small section of 12ga spliced in. CUCV Electric Thats pretty easy! Its probably in a TM somewhere but over 1000 pages is a lot to look through!

    What would melt this wire

Yup. I took a closer look and the resistor pack is gone with the GP relay connected to the 12V block in the picture. The wire looks like it was from radioshack, 10 or 8 gauge but I didn't see anything that looked like a fusable link...must have gone out with the conversion. What pawnshop...

    What would melt this wire

The one connecting the negative terminal of batt. 2 and the engine wiring harness block (above the GP relay)? P.O. had a stuck starter relay but I don't see where that would push current through this wire. Its not 12V converted. I know he replaced glowplugs, is it possible he wired them to...

    new from indiana

Well I took delivery last night. I thought I was going to tow it but after reviewing the starter relay thread I decided to bring a bag of tools and some heavy wire. Took about 5 minutes to get it "hot wired" and running and I drove it home. Only problem I had was breaking the drivers vent...

    On frame undercarriage restoration

I've read that products like POR15 or rustoleum are best applied to bare metal/rust. Otherwise they peel the old paint off and can trap moisture where you can't see it. What's the best method to get the old paint/coatings/grease/tar/bugs/whatever off the underside of a CUCV or any other old...

One step ahead of you ;) I looked at the vehicle and after talking to the owner I think I know what I need for it. I'm just waiting for our schedules to line up to sign it over and start the fun. The diesel engine and simplicity is what attracted me to these things. I've spent the last few...

Small world huh? I'm actually an Indiana transplant....took the road less traveled and came to Indiana for college and then stayed! I met my wife in TH while she was at ISU and I was attending RHIT. And speaking of wife...boy is she going to be mad when there's a cammo painted 30 year old...

Hi all! I'm 99% certain I'll be picking up a M1009 within the next week or so. Vehicle has starting issues so I'm signing up ahead of time to ask questions and view posts/diagrams. I'm not too afraid of electrical debugging and wiring and these seem pretty simple. Here's to hoping I don't...
