Can't wait to get the M1008 running. Currently in AZ and heading for northern MI shortly, where the CUCV is stored. I drove various Military vehicles in Korea, Japan, CO and VA, 60 years ago. Why do I like the vehicle? At age 79 it gives me something to putter with and brings back a lot of...
I had a similar situation with rust on my M715. First MV I purchased online from a private party without first checking it out. The seller had a high positive rating on the popular auction site and the pictures attached to the ad looked great. I was 2000 miles distant from the seller, and...
Had planned to sell my M886, and concentrate on my M725, but after reading numerous posts I got stimulated enough to now keep the M886 and possibly paint it OD. I may have paid a little too much for mine ($3,200.00), but it's in good condition and it isn't like I have too many years to look...
psycho - there's thousands of HUMVEES sitting on Bases here in the U.S. and overseas. They are selling them in large lots, as scrap, removing the wheels/tires and chopping them into small pieces - what a waste. This is a little off-topic from my original post/question, but something that should...
Thanks for all the comments. Bob - I'm in Ironwood, western end of the U.P., approx. another 150 miles west of Iron Mountain. The possible USMC connection is interesting, plan to do a little more research on that angle.
Found mine on GSA. I think I might have paid too much, but everything has different value to different folks. Think I will sell mine, but I'm a long way from TX. Good luck hunting, if you haven't found one yet.
Thanks- a few more pictures attached. This vehicle went from the Military to the US Forest Service to a small town in northern MN then to me via GSA . (Having a problem adding pics, so will try sending via new thread)
Insane Hobby? Glad to hear, thought I may be one of the few that go goofey over these MV,s:) Got to be a good feeling to have it home. penokee (Yooper)
I've driven mine on 4 lane and 2 lane and the 80+ mpd drivers on the 4 lane always made me a little uptight. When I hit the 55mph 2 lane I relaxed. I have my chase car put on it's emergency flashers when vehicles are approaching from the rear - gives them a little advance notice that you are...
I'd go with Air Force blue. Years back, I was in an Army Engineering Aviation Battalion, stationed on Air Force bases and our vehicles were standard OD and Air Force vehicles Blue - a nice contrast in my opinion. Hoping to pickup a blue AirForce vehicle in the future and will park it next to my...
Get one. I have a M1008 and M1009, and drive both. Have a Historical plate on the 1009 and regular plate on the 1008. The PU is a little rough riding because of the stiff suspension, but that goes with the territory. Being a 76 year old Korean Vet who drove jeeps, Dueces and 5 tons in Korea...
I recently had to use a stretch of I-10 in AZ, towing a M1101 from Ft Huacha (?). I used the SMV sign, but when they are traveling at 80 mph or more, they either don't know what the emblem stands for, or don't care - at any rate it wasn't fun and breathed a sigh of relief when we got to Tucson...
