    MEP-002 pump problem

I may go with the new VR board, like you guys say at least I'd have a spare. I did a visual inspection and check all the screw terminals. I was thinking more about what may have caused the over speeding issue, and why bending down the governor arm seemed to cure it. I think I may know what...

    MEP-002 pump problem

I too am a little confused why it was working well, and all of a sudden got out of whack. Maybe tomorrow ill compare how the arm looks now, compared to the pic I posted earlier. I mentioned earlier in this thread that when running, my AC voltage was off... At startup today, I found this was...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Well, I think I fixed it! I did an inspection of the fly ball assembly, and everything checked out good. No abnormal wear to the governor cup, or the ball bearings. The fly ball shaft stick out measurement was spot on at 25/32. When I had the governor cover off I was reading old posts on a...

    MEP-002 pump problem

I did. I had some loctite 545 around. Sounds like it is a sealant for hydraulic fittings, so I thought it would work for this. Seems like a good mod if you happen to have the cover off.

    MEP-002 pump problem

Fixed the governor pin. I drilled right through the cover and tapped for a 1/4" bolt. I used a bolt that was not threaded the whole way. I cut off the head of the bolt, leaving the amount I needed sticking out. About 1/2". The threaded portion was the perfect length for going through the...

    MEP-002 pump problem

I probably will fix that pin. I'm tempted to "leave well enough alone", but like you say its a lot of work to get at it again. Also the damage it could do if it fell out. However, its all for nothing if I can't figure out why my engine RPM's start racing.

    MEP-002 pump problem

Got it! I did try an air hammer. May have helped free it. I finally decided to tighten down the puller until either the puller broke or the flywheel broke free. I ended up getting it super super tight, and then a couple of hits on the main bolt and it came off. I got the gear case cover...

    MEP-002 pump problem

It is definitely a stubborn one. I'll try again using some of the advice from you guys. Thanks!

    MEP-002 pump problem

Having trouble getting the flywheel/blower to pop off. Went at it for a little bit yesterday. First attempt with 2 grade 8 - 5/16”x4” bolts in the flywheel. Tightened and hammered and heated, but eventually the puller pulled the threads out of the flywheel. I drill and tapped for 3/8”...

    MEP-002 pump problem

I agree with you guys as well, I will probably pull the gear cover and see if I can see anything wrong in there with the gov.. Yes, in these videos that throttle is all the way pushed in. When I started it cold (started up good at 31 degrees outside), I had the throttle knob pushed in. At...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Here is one more video.. in this one I move the throttle up and down a few times, and then hold it down to turn it off. When I raised the throttle, it did push back at my finger to lower the RPMs. When I shut it down, you can see in the video right before it quit, it tried to raise the...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Hi guys, I was about take apart the generator to inspect the governor. I thought I would shoot one more quick video before I did. In this video I am moving the throttle arm on the pump with my finger. This is what originally made me think my injector pump was not working properly. The video...

    MEP-002 pump problem

That a good video explaining what that pin does in the governor. I wonder if my pin fell out and is just rolling around in there waiting to get caught in the gears. I like the idea of using those pins mentioned above, if that turns out to be the problem. Your are correct that the engine...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Thanks for the tips guys, I appreciate it. There is a fair amount of bouncing up and down on the throttle shaft when running like you said, wasn't sure if that was normal or not. Oscillation I guess you might call it. But the governor seems to hold the throttle in about the same position...

    MEP-002 pump problem

I'll try and shoot another video soon. If I had a spare injection pump around I would probably put it on to see if that fixes it, but I do not. It looks to me like the IP is not regulating the engine speed like it should.

    MEP-002 pump problem

Here are some pics of the governor setup. Yes, before the problem started the throttle control knob was always pulled out somewhat to get about 61hz no load.. I can’t remember exactly how far out. I ran it for over 2000hrs with minimal to no adjustments to the speed.

    MEP-002 pump problem

To me it looks like the governor is working properly... What I am seeing is the RPM's all over the place, even with the throttle arm being held in the same position by the governor. This is what has made me think that the injector pump has some kind of issue. So in that video, and all the...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Here is a video I snapped of the throttle when starting.. you can see the HZ meter in the video as well. Sorry it was a little shaky for a little bit until I held the camera steady. It looks to me like - - Throttle position is NOT changing when engine is rapidly revving. - Governor linkage...

    MEP-002 pump problem

Ok, Ill get a video of that soon. I will double check, but from what I could tell the governor in functioning correctly. Yes, the RPMs will slowly creep up pretty high. You can see on the hertz meter that it will keep going up to about 90Hz. When the RPM's start racing like in the...
