I'm all for servicing! especially now that I know what happens when you fail to do proper servicing -_-
What would you recommend including in that service? Check bearing grease, differential fluid...?
yep. I'm still pretty new to this whole diy thing.
Yessir! I did get to use a friends pneumatic air wrench the other day though, and that was pretty much the most awesome thing ever, so I may call it an "investment" or get one for Pops this fathers day and just borrow it :P
George from white owl got back to me the other day. Apparently he has...
Detach drive shaft: check
detach shock absorbers: check
realizing that I need a larger socket: check
Anyone know what size nuts are on the backing plates? I think a 7/8th's is the largest I have in my box and it needs something considerably larger.
I'm also going to need a larger socket for...
Status update:
Truck is fully on jack stands, lighting is in place, and I've emailed the folks at white owl looking for a replacement. I'm hoping to pick up a camera to better document this and possibly start removal tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks to everyone so far :)
I believe I have made the decision to replace my front axle.
Overall goal for this truck:
This is an M1009 purchased last November with 22k original miles on it. As far as I know, everything is stock, but I don't know very far. By the end of this summer, I would love to have this truck as my...
Sounds like a good plan to me, but here are a few issues:
1. I don't have a high speed cutter.
2. I don't have a chisel
3. I don't have a micrometer
None of those are huge issues, but I'm wondering if just replacing the entire front axle with the one posted earlier from colemans might be...
well, personally I really like the looks of those tires on there, and it sounds like you've been pretty pleased with them, so if I ever get 4 working wheels back on my truck, I might spring for a set of those :) Thanks for the updates and pictures!
We huh...That's not what I was hoping to hear.
First picture should be the piece that I took off. Second is what's left of the passenger side front wheel assembly, and the third is the same directly from the side.
any help would be awesome.
My inner spindle nut is stuck.
I bought an OEM 25072, which worked great to get the first part of that spindle nut off, but now there's a 6 slotted piece behind that that just won't budge. the 25072 is a little too big, so I went to advanced and they rented me a 5 piece spindle nut socket set...
...I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking. this past semester really fried my brain I guess. So far as I know I have the stock set up on my 1009. I'll try to get a camera, take some pictures, and figure out exactly what I should be replacing. Thanks again :)
honestly I wasn't sure what I was going to need to replace, but if I needed to/should replace the entire bearing and spindle assembly on both sides, that was looking to be 150-200, plus brake calipers and possibly rotors, wasn't sure about the knuckle and the like, plus a set of locking hubs I...
okay, so I essentially had the exact same problem as niferous about 2 months ago, had my truck sit in the shop for ages with nothing done, and finally got to work on it a few days ago. After much cursing, 2 bent gear pullers, and a great deal of consultation with this thread, I have torn down...
It's not standard CUCV look, but I think it's a very good looking truck you have there. I'm in the market for some new tires here in NC some time soon, so let me know how those bad boys do in the mud :)
well at least that could have been an honest mistake, and even possibly my fault to an extent.
"should" is the operative word there. EVERYTHING was completely chewed up inside the hub and wouldn't slide off.

That...
front battery, and it looks like someone had the master switch flipped for the flashers, so I guess that would do it huh?
*sigh* now I just need to find a gear puller that will fit inside that hub and not bend all to pieces
you know, it is what it is. I'm annoyed, but I have my truck back, so all in all I'm pretty pleased :)
would still love to know what, if anything, they did to my battery...
