Well I got the top and front insulation in and encapsulated, but in the theme of this project I ran out of ceramic insulation. I'll order more Friday when I get my Amazon points (got like $100 coming). For now I tossed the cover on and took it for a spin. It is BY FAR quieter than the stock...
Started the doghouse today. Got the inner siding in and sealed down with high temp metal bonding silicone. I don't want the ceramic fibers getting out. I'll let it dry overnight then sandwich in the ceramic insulation tomorrow.
Got my doghouse aluminum today so I can finish it this week. Will be great, when it's open and the fan kicks on, it blows heated air into the cab that feels like something from Satan's domain.
Ya, I ran it up a hill the other day, starts hitting around 2k and definitely helps get it to the top a little quicker. Exhaust temp was around 600*. Need to route the CDR to the intake boot as it's puffing a little smoke.
Still waiting for my metal to finish the doghouse, thought I'd share a few items that I'll be working on (will make new threads). Intercom system, RedDot AC, and an airlift bumper.
Ya, I just took the two bolts out and pushed it to the side. It's a little tight but much better than removing the whole thing. Don't forget to disconnect your battery!
Figured I'd post some main seal pics while I'm waiting for my doghouse aluminum to show up.it was an old rope seal, prob 1/3 was missing. It slid right out. Replaced with a modem felpro orange seal. Interesting note, the cylinders still have a crosshatch pattern from when the engine was built ...
Just your weekly update. I took some go-pro videos to try and see where my exhaust leak is coming from, 99% sure it's from the #8 cylinder manifold. I can see kinda see the smoke there, see a little spot and oil and it's the one missing the bolt, soooo, it's been there prob the whole time I've...
Makes complete sense. That 6.2 is redlined at 3k, I've only had it up to 2500 at 7psi, so at 3k I'd prob be pushing 10psi, just with a ton of lag. I'm gonna finish up my doghouse, then this winter prob convert it over to a HX35 sitting on a d-max T4 pedestal for better spooling.
I would agree. I'm prob gonna leave this right now, at least till fall, I have the option of getting a pedestal that'll hook up to my up pipes that'll fit pretty much any turbo, specifically a HX off a Cummins.
Took off the up pipes today. Cut and re-welded them, that way all exhaust flanges fit perfectly bolted up. Still getting exhaust smoke in the cab through the doghouse opening. I'm wondering if the truck always smoked like that from the #8 cylinder. Got 7psi of boost, so with atmospheric pressure...
