    Farm Fresh A5

The previous owner probably shortened the pick up tube. No big deal, just a little less available gas in the tank.

    Farm Fresh A5

I see that using the Wix filter in the fuel tank the fuel pick up will have to be shortened about 3/4 inch, or an adapter ring made to take up the extra space at the top. Either way will work fine.

    Farm Fresh A5

One thing you might consider, if the shrouding is still off you might want to take out the screw on the carb extention tube. The other two will hold it just fine. The way it is now, if you need to pull the carb you will also have to take the shrouding off and pull the fuel pump to get that one...

    TM-9-1871 bent rims info needed

I don't know who makes the mag wheels, but the wheels on my A5 all have "Alcoa" on them so I assume they are aluminum.

Score: Tree stump (1), mule (0)

I did the same thing here in Michigan, only took off the right side. I was able to drive it out of the woods and even drove it onto the trailer. Bill Watson had everything to fix it. I even bent the axle and had to replace that too. I was surprized it was only a little over $100. for the fix.

    4 Wheel steering conversion

4 wheel steer kits are available through Bill Watson or David Kelone. They are not cheap, but everything is included. Go to g503.com for a step by step tutorial of the process. billwatson mules@bellsouth.net militarymules.com

    4 Wheel steering conversion

I addede four steering to mine and am not sorry. Much more maneuverable. The military went to two steer because of roll over issues, but common sense driving and that is not a problem. There is the possibility in tight quarters of swinging the rear into something, so caution must be used there.

    Another one bites the dust

I bought an engine from them just to have a spare. Terry will talk your ear off, seems very knowledgeable. I paid a higher price than I should have (should have bought from Bill Watson). He assured me that the engines he sells are gone through, new seals, new gaskets, new carb and fuel pump. Run...

    vw powered m274A1

The gentleman stated there was not enough clearence for the rear wheels to steer with the V W engine. When I asked him about the fan shrouding he said they did have to make up a different engine cover that was humped up for the shroud. I believe he also stated there had to be some modification...

    vw powered m274A1

I have not seen this conversion, but talked to a man who did one. It required locking out the 4 steer and modifing the engine cover and deck to accomidate the fan shroud. It also required governing the engine down to a reasonable rpm. It was used successfully in the Colorado mountains to haul...

What branches of the military used the mule

When I got my mule I noticed the data plate was embossed with both army and marine info. There was also a navy computer scanner tag on the front edge of the bed. I just assumed it was either purchased or released from service through navy procurment. Original color appears to have been O.D., but...

    Working a mule

Anyone knows that if you have a good mule, you have to work it once in a while or they get lazy. Here I am loaded up for a hit-miss engine show in Harrison, MI this weekend. The larger engine (a 6hp Bull's Eye) weighs 1350 lbs. and the mule pulls it onto the trailer with ease. The smaller one...

    Carburetor question

thanks for your reply. I am running the hotter Champion plugs and all my other adjustments are good. I talked to Bill about this while trying to sort out a fuel pump problem (see my fuel pump saga on the G) and he states that some mules tend to run rich no matter what you do. Right now it is...

    Carburetor question

I posted this on the "G" also. I am familiar with the idle adjustment on the mule carb. I do get some black smoke while running, and occaisionaly the plugs will foul out with black soot. Am I missing an adjustment somewhere or getting ready for a new carb?

    Connecting an oil gauge

Can anyone give me a hint about where to connect an oil gauge to my mule engine? Either electric or tube type. It makes me nervous not knowing if I have any oil pressure!
