    Are M818 axles lockers?

Blake, If you had asked about 3 years ago, I could have taken a picture of one. We have divested all 5 tons so equipped. It's the same placard that I've seen in M915's with Detroit Lockers. Joseph

    M1082 Max Speed

Keep in mind that the max speed you're allowed to operate a tactical vehicle on every post I've been to is 40 m.p.h. The TM may be written to reflect this line of thinking. Every National Guardsman I know runs them at the posted limit or 62 mph (governor setting on LMTV), whichever is lower...

    Are M818 axles lockers?

Recovery, There was no rhyme or reason to which USMC trucks had Detroit No Spins. I've seen every variant of M809 and M939 series trucks with and without. I will say the highest concentration groups appeared to be in M817's and M923's. The trucks equipped with Detroits have a dataplate...

M998 Transport needed from Lake Butler, Florida to Spring Lake, NC

Are you staying at Swamps or my place before you pick up the next loader? We might need to start a new thread "Where is Simp Headed?" so we can keep track of you or prepare to be ready for you. I think I speak for everyone when I say We Appreciate all the hard driven miles for members on here.

    M939 Winter Storage

Took my truck for a few runs today. Guess it is much different having a true diesel as opposed to a multifuel powered truck and I've been doing it wrong. Towards the end of each run, it would pick up speed to the point it'd run on the governor in 5th. After the third run, it idled without...

M998 Transport needed from Lake Butler, Florida to Spring Lake, NC

I was about 3 inches too far towards the passenger side, just needed to make a minor correction. Only had to pull forward about 3 feet to get it straight.

M998 Transport needed from Lake Butler, Florida to Spring Lake, NC

Allen's trailer is loaded onto Simp's truck and headed south. Only took 2 tries to back it on with my 5 ton.

M51A2 stuck sprag not engaging air problem?

The sprag is pretty tough. If it wasn't broken before, I doubt you've damaged it. The way to engage it without air is to remove the actuator housing on the front of the transfer case and pull/push the piston into position. I can't remember which way for which direction of travel. With a...

M51A2 stuck sprag not engaging air problem?

Air piston in the front of it engages the transfer sprag. Once he has air pressure, it should assist by engaging the front axle. It's not a direct engagement like the air shift in the M35's "equipped" or M939 series trucks. In the OP's case, he has to have air pressure controlled by the valve...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

He sounded nervous on the phone as he was out in the middle of nowhere One thing about those people, they operate big tractors and break stuff on occasion as well. Most are pretty friendly and helpful just as my father in law was. I'm glad that Wes picked up the tracked loader he was after...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Didn't work on a 5 ton today but had to activate my father in law to go get Simp some help. He broke down in Cuthbert, Ga. He described the area as "Banjo Country"! As luck would have it, my wife is from there so Mr. Russel went on the way ready to help. The issue was the threads on the...

M51A2 stuck sprag not engaging air problem?

    1. yes 2. no. I would find a cap that is close but slightly oversized and use a lot of teflon tape to cap the line going to the missing airpack. Might not work but I know I'd try it anyway.

MV of the Month Nominations Dec 2017

This truck has won before, people have stepped their game up since. It's been over 12 months so it's eligible but let's make a challenge. Introducing my M1028 with less than 8,000 miles. I've got tons of pictures and advertising experience on here, we'll make it a race!

Best guesses at a restored m1009's value in 2018 and beyond

Nah, no popcorn needed. I respect members Tinstar, Cucvrus and 98G. I was only asking a question for an opinion. I know they want them to be all original and that's a good plan. I've modified mine ever so slightly to make it suit my needs. Next modification will be new tires. Mine is still...

Best guesses at a restored m1009's value in 2018 and beyond

No cutting and splicing done on the glowplug mod. I simply used a drill bit to slightly enlarge the hole on the factory ring terminal to adapt it to the 12 volt lug located right next to the relay. No wiring was cut to install the CD player as well. Add a fuse set up to the original fuse...

Best guesses at a restored m1009's value in 2018 and beyond

I'm curious as to how much a CD player install and glowplug resistor removal lowers the value then. I did have to modify the dash to install the radio but I used an install kit from Crutchfield so it looks factory. I realize that some of you gentlemen are purist but I'm curious as to...

    M939 Winter Storage

98G, This is where I want you to take me to school. I agree that running a diesel engine hard is best. I would like to know why running one at a high idle with no load vs letting it sit is a better idea. My observation in regards to the cucv idling low while burning all of the old fuel out...

    M939 Winter Storage

I thought I'd bounce some ideas off some smart guy's heads. In the past, I'd put the deuce to bed this time of year and I did the same thing with the 5 ton as well for the last 2 years. The deuce always started easy and of course the 250 in the 5 ton does not. I started the 5 ton up this...

    Cold weather and no start.

Please clarify what "nothing" means. Is the starter engaging but the truck is failing to fire off or is the starter not engaging at all? 12.35 volts is roughly 70% of where it should be, ideally you'd be showing 12.8 open circuit voltage. Having said that, I charged mine recently and both...

NOS USMC M1028 from Norway Storage

It ran through the old fuel fine idling. Put about 12 gallons of fresh diesel in the tank to top it off and it did fine in the Christmas Parade with my better half driving! I drove it some as well on the old fuel and the Stanadyne Performance additive really seemed to help. I need to hook it...
