    Roscommon 12volt conversion the BEST!

What you say may be true but, I rebuilt my alternators twice then the starter went out. When I rebuilt the starter to 12volt and did the conversion, I've had no problem starting or recharging my batteries. I'm no mechanic but I know what worked for me. Also, I believe in KISS. Keep It Simple...

    Roscommon 12volt conversion the BEST!

The only reason I still have this old m1009 is because of this conversion. I'm no mechanic but if you can follow instructions, this is very doable. This truck's electric problems were solved by the 12volt conversion and I'm actually enjoying driving it instead of having the biggest, ugliest...

Any one do the Roscommon 12volt conversion?

Problem fixed! Had the wires hooked up wrong on starter. Runs like a champ now. Thanks for the input. Question, does the wait light stop coming on when the engine is warm? It came on a couple of times when testing engine then nothing? Thanks, I'll snap some pictures and post later.

Any one do the Roscommon 12volt conversion?

Red, The lights work, the wait light for the glow plugs work , the dash meter doesn't . I don't hear the glow plugs clicking nor any noise from the new starter. Not a mechanic, sorry. Rickf, just one alternator per the Roscommon convertion in the resources section. Thanks

Any one do the Roscommon 12volt conversion?

I just spent two days and a lot of money rebuilding two alternators and rebuilding the starter and converting to 12volt, and it's not working! Glow plugs not making any sounds. Got lights and wait light. And before the I told you so's begin It didn't work in 24 volt either. The starter and...

Time for a no nonsense, come to Jesus moment, about m1009

Sage wisdom HardCorps79. Hadn't thought of it that way. Well reasoned. I've decided to keep the truck , fix and replace a little at a time. I haven't fooled with it for a couple of months now and my anger has subsided. My main problem is I am busy as **** and juggling a ton of things and...

What I mean is, wear down the battery in a very short period of time. Like two weeks of light driving? Thanks

Time for a no nonsense, come to Jesus moment, about m1009

If nothing else, you guys make the best debating team I have every heard! I'll hang on to it a while longer. fix it a bit at a time. I'll start with the starter and I will do the roscommon 12volt conversion. No Debate. Question, can a bad starter wear down the front battery.

Time for a no nonsense, come to Jesus moment, about m1009

I understand what you're all saying. No I'm not using this truck as a daily driver. I have a very comfortable and dependable car for that. I use this thing for occasional hauling and when I can get away for some fishing. I'm from south Mississippi. I fish the southern part of my state, Louisiana...

Time for a no nonsense, come to Jesus moment, about m1009

Thanks Gentlemen, I think I have my answer. Any one want a new hobby. I'm selling it. Oddly enough I have a 25 year old chrysler fifth Ave. I use as a daily driver with 125,000 miles on it that has never let me down. I know that there will always be a certain amount of repairs to be done on...

Disenchanted with m1009, Rather have an M880!

Oh, by the way the National Guard guys told me that the Army was using a corrosive anti-freeze on the m1008's and m1009's a few years ago. They suggested that I change that right away. They also said that the main seal on the GM's were known for going out fairly often, and with mine setting up...

Disenchanted with m1009, Rather have an M880!

Elwenil, Amen brother! At my last overseas assignment, the sp's all used RamChargers. They were militarized. I don't know what their military designation number was, but I've been looking around for any on GL and the web. No joy though. Any info please post. Wally

Disenchanted with m1009, Rather have an M880!

The big deal is two fold. One a Dodge truck from the 70's and 80's is a simple, reliable and straight forward truck. Not the most powerful or stylish. Just a simple vehicle to repair and when you put the key in, it starts. Two I guess the more important thing is the condition of the CUCV. I...

    M1009 search

Cucvfreek, wish you lived in Mississippi I'd sell you mine. It's definitely a project truck. It runs good but everything seems to go out every other day!

Disenchanted with m1009, Rather have an M880!

I agree with you Sgt Hulka. Depends on units motor pool and daily use. I am just referring to the cost of parts and how simple maintenance on a Dodge truck is. And I'm not sure the GM vehicles are more dependable. I spoke to a retired AF mechanic from around here a couple weeks ago. He said...

Disenchanted with m1009, Rather have an M880!

Hello all. I have an m1009 blazer bought from the army. This thing is a money pit, even doing a lot of the work myself! I was Air Force in the late 70's early 80's. We had all Dodge vehicles and they were great. I think they were m88o's series. I very much liked the Ram Charger. Are there any of...
