I agree that Maine tags are the way to go. I registered my M101A2 in Maine a couple months ago and was amazed at how easy it was. I just emailed a copy of my invoice from GL, paid $90 plus 5% Maine sales tax on my $276 trailer, and I had my plate and registration mailed to my house in about a...
Maine registration
I just registered my 101A2 in Maine ( I live in PA ) and it was so easy I can't imagine registering it any place else. I originally tried to register mine in PA but it turned into a major PITA. I had the SF97, FL certificut of title, bill of sale, pictures, and made a rub of...
The taxes are not the problem. ME 5%, PA 6%. Here in PA it is absolutely impossible to register a mil-surp trailer unless you purchase it from GL yourself and request the SF-97 or you purchase from a private seller and they purchased it from GL and requested the SF-97 and obtained a title. A...
Thanks, I will absolutely get Maine plates next time. Unfortunately, I already submitted the SF-97 for the trailer I just purchased, and I really wouldnt be saveing much money by going through Maine now because of it. But next time, it will be a no brainer.
I have some friends that purchased...
I have been looking at the cheapest/easiest way to get a M101A2 trailer registered in PA. I noticed that alot of people both private and commercial who do not live in Maine choose to have their trailers registered there. You only have to look at trailer plates on a interstate or highway to see a...
Thanks, for the advice. I hope the process goes as smooth as yours did. I also have a 4 digit S/N so I guess I can expect them to issue a new S/N. But, at least I should be able to get plates the same day and I don't plan on selling the trailer so a eight week wait should not be that big of a...
Thanks again guys. I guess it does make more sense to wait and see exactly what it needs before I just purchase stuff for the sake of replaceing it. I spoke to a old friend of mine that served 7 years on active duty in the Army and is still serving in the PA ANG who has quite abit of experience...
Thanks alot for all the help. I think I might replace bearings and seals first and look for any missing or damaged parts during replacement. If that does not solve it, I'll start looking at the brake and cable. Right now I think it's a toss up between the wheel bearing and a sticking brake drum.
I have a 1990 Kasel M101A2 trailer I just picked up from GL and I am running into a problem I hope someone on here can help me with. I jacked the tires up to check the wheel bearings by grabbing the top of the wheel and shakeing it to see if the bearings seemed ok. One side was very solid and...
titling and registration in PA
By the way, do any of you Pennsylvania owners have any experience getting these trailers titled and registered in Pennsylvania? I sent my SF-97 form in yesterday and I realize it takes awhile to get it back. My experience with PennDot in other matters has been...
Recovery at chambersburg
I picked up my M101A2 from Letterkenny on Thursday ( 08/11/11 ). It was my first GL purchase and I am pretty happy with the trailer I got for $276. I rented a UHaul car hauler to tow it home ( 3 1/2 hour drive ) and the set up worked well. Had to add some plywood and...
