Nice looking truck. You are getting close! I'd be sitting in the driver's seat every evening, elbow on the door, hand on the wheel, foot mashed to the floor...
Of course there would be spit all over the steering wheel and windshield!
Are you going to have the room with the NP205 T case?
Will you have to slide the 211 T case back?
3rd gear is 1:1 ratio, no overdrive.
May be easier to get a Th400 out of a chev 2wd pick up that would have the chev bolt pattern, Maybe 700r4?
I would not worry about the "built or hi perf" in a...
Thanks for the offer, but dont send anything. I was cleaning shop before winter. The book was from one of my refresher classes. We get new ones every 2 years. There is some good stuff every one should know a little about there. Bad thinks happen to good people some times. Most of the info is...
I hear ya on the steam thing. Rember the speed limit is 45 in your town so you should turn 2500rpm. If I were you, I'd keep going on the path you are taking. Keep the TH 400 for now. Run it for a year.
Gunfreak, I FINALLY got my parts storage trailer cleaned out Friday. A package will go out Monday with some goodies that were left over from my other cab. Gauge panel looked ok, but glove compartment doors are weak. Maybe you can skin the outside of one and the inside of the other. I sent some...
I'm noticing a decrease in the frequency of pictures in your postings lately.
It is your job to keep us GMC guys motivated! :-P
(I better go post some in my thread)
There will be some flex in the frame, motor mount etc. The tailshaft has the slip joint inside on the standard TH 400 transmission so it is easier to keep it. If there was no ship joint you'll have to move the motor forward to replace a u-joint or install the driveshaft.
I'd try to get enough room so you can take it out if you need to. I'd want at least 1/2 to prevent pressure on the transmission, but that is only my opinion. I'd aim for 1" if you have the room.
That yoke was intended to slid in and out over every bump, when you loaded groceries in the trunk, at drive in movies...
Can you move the engine forward 1"or 2"?
If you have to shorten the driveshaft take it out of the transfer case end. Remember you will never exceed 58 miles an hour.
The transfer case has a real (and big) bearing in the front that is supported by real iron. The transmission has a tailshaft bushing inside an aluminum housing. A...
2. I don't think so. When I first saw the pics I thought the yoke was too far in. I assumed you pushed it in so it would not fall out. I have had first hand experience with bottoming the things out resulting in many broken tailshaft housings before I figured it out. -Custom driveshaft, lifted...
