Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Well, here's the update. Pump arrived this morning (super fast shipping). I pulled the old inline pump and had a line made to take it's place. I pulled the tank and pump assembly and found the pickup had a bunch of junk in it so I think ultimately that was the real problem. I went ahead and...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

I replaced all of the filters this morning (call them whatever you want, LOL), still have the problem. We'll see what happens when I get the pump.

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

My thought on the filters was that it would likely be a little slow: Loss of power getting slowly worse. Can it actually cause a problem this fast?

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Okay, aside from cracks, and pressures, and valves, there was an interesting turn of events on the truck today. :) I took it to the Knoxville Christmas Parade and it ran excellent, best it's run in years. Then, on the way home it started missing and died on the interstate. I started it back...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Okay, I pulled it all back apart this morning and pressure tested the in-tank assembly. Found it leaking where the rubber hose meets the bottom of the 90 degree connector. Pulled the clamp and hose, cleaned, reinstalled, and it was still leaking but better. Repositioned the clamp and the leak...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

This morning I thought I would check a few more things before getting a plug for the 90 degree connector (giving me the ability to block one end and pressurize the other). I turned on the pump and let it run for a couple of minutes, cracked the bleeder screw on the secondary filters and got a...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Yes, I noticed on the listing it said it would take around a week to ship. I would love to have it here tomorrow, but isn't that the way it always is? :) LOL.

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

I just ordered a Parker pump, but I'm sure there's no way it will be here by Friday. I have parades Friday and Saturday so I'm going to have to get this thing working reliable before then.

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

I'm thinking if I can pressure test from the connector on the bottom of the pickup line to the output of the 90 degree connector on top of the tank that would be helpful. In the morning I'm going to get a connector to plug that output and then I could just use a blow nozzle with rubber tip on...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Well, after getting it all back together it is now worse than before I started. I can run it for 10-20 minutes fine and then all of a sudden it dies. Cracking the bleeder screw on top of the secondary filters gives a good mixture of air/fuel for at least 60 seconds and then the air goes away...

I will check those areas too, thank you for the help! John

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Since it's been a few years I don't remember the factory spec but I was thinking the 9psi and 35gph rating on the 8135 met that spec. It does surprise me to hear you say that as I have seen several others running that pump and I haven't had any trouble running full RPM for long distances/times...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

My thought had been since the factory pump had a screen filter that I should put one in front of the new external in-line lift pump to protect it from damage. Do you think that's not a risk? I used an Airtex E8135: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATX-E8135/

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Here's what I found. I had apparently used the factory house when abandoning the factory pump and adding the external pump. When doing so I added a waterhose style fitting with internal screen filter to catch any junk and extend the hose lower in the tank. The hose itself seems fine, no...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

No I didn't realize that (I'm definitely not a diesel mechanic so I'm learning as I go/need to). I will round up fuel cans/buckets tomorrow and get to work. Thanks, John

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Okay, here's an update. I cracked the bleeder on the secondary filters this morning and got almost no air at all. I started the truck up and backed it out, let it run at varying RPMs for 45 minutes, pulled it back in, and shut it off. I'm going to try the same thing tomorrow but I'm not going...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Hmmm, I guess I better get rid of them then. I must be a slow learner! :) LOL

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

When I worked on that number two line before that's basically all I did. I totally brought the nut out, wiggled the line around a little bit, and then tightened it back up. It seemed to fix it at first, but then the next time it was leaking a little again. What is the benefit in getting rid of...

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

Here are some pictures after it running an hour.

Deuce keeps getting air in fuel system

So here is some additional feedback as of now: By the time I made it to the end of the Veteran's Day Parade I had a little more than 1/4 tank of fuel. The next time I started it was last Friday when working on it and then Monday so then around a 1/4 tank of fuel or maybe less after the...
