    Good news and bad news!

So, jokes on me. This is apparently an "engine heater", with the arctic hood blanket. I definitely don't need this down in TX. Anybody want to make me an offer on it? Never installed, never used. Just opened, I read the manual, and I said "doh!!!.

    Good news and bad news!

On the bad side, the hole where the spring hanger attaches to the frame is rusted through. My death wobble just got worst, and now I have even more suspension issues to deal with! On the good side, I got the original arctic heater kit from 1954, still in the wooden crate!

Couple problems with mt 1952 M38A1

My windshield is also not split down the middle. That might make it an M38 windshield on my M38a1, does that affect the height?

Couple problems with mt 1952 M38A1

My seat is rather high, like as in if I sit upright, I have to stoop to seep through the windshield. Is this normal for the M38A1s? Also, I've noticed that it behaves really badly on lower octane gas. I know when these were made, they only had leaded gas, not unleaded. Any opinions?

Couple problems with mt 1952 M38A1

So, I went to install the seat belts today, and noticed a tire was flat. I went to pull it off, and all the bolts are seized up. Rusted in place, painted over, and even with a big torque wrench, I couldn't move them. I looked closer, and noticed both of the driver's side tires are dry rotted. It...

Couple problems with mt 1952 M38A1

Mild offroad. Mainly hunting/camping, a few trails. I like the T18, I had it in a CJ. It's bulletproof. I also like keeping the M38A1 mostly stock, and the T18 actually was around in the same era, just on heavier trucks. Any opinions on the axle swap? And, also, I can swap in a completely...

Couple problems with mt 1952 M38A1

Alright, it looks like the steering craziness is a combo of worn out shocks, and loose linkage. I have to replace the shocks, pitman arm, tie rod ends, and steering gear box. The jeep dying is most likely vapor lock, as the fuel line runs between the exhaust manifold and the engine block, and...

Couple problems with mt 1952 M38A1

The steering is shot. Riding down the street, after I hit a bump, the steering goes all wonky for a minutes, jerking back and forth, then settles down. I got home, gave the tie-rods a little tug, and they are loose. I have to turn the wheel over 2 inches before the tire moves as well, and the...

    I just bought an M38A1

The advice came from the guy who built up the Jeep. He says, with the 4 cylinder, it doesn't add much, is expensive, and essentially a waste. He also says he can ride it comfortably at 50 MPH.

    I just bought an M38A1

It has warn locking hubs, so I'm all good there. I was told "don't fall for that overdrive bs. You gain almost nothing because the engine is so small". Aside from the seat belts, my new question concerns the oil I use for differentials and engine. In my newer trucks, I've always used synthetics...

    I just bought an M38A1

No answers on the hub question? And can I install seat belts without drilling holes into my Jeep?

    I just bought an M38A1

I mis-posted. What I actually meant to say, was that I was thinking of installing a PTO winch that was not the Original model. If I do that, what do I need to look out for? And, are the present hubs on the M38a1 kind of like the manual FJ Cruiser? It's AWD, so the front differential is in action...

    I just bought an M38A1

Oh, and one more question. I want to install seat belts. What length do I need?

    I just bought an M38A1

I want to get some good rubber floor mats for my M38a1, does anyone know what fits? Maybe CJ5 mats? Also, if I install a PTO winch, but the extremely expensive Original 50s Ramsey one, does anyone know the limitations? And why the recommendation that I install locking hubs? Every CJ I've had...

    I just bought an M38A1

Overdrive sounds great-I just did some research, and even though I have rebuilt two jeeps (both 70's CJs) I had never heard of it! I really only want to go fast for brief stretches on the major highways, so I don't get pulled on an interstate for going too slow, and it doesn't take me forever to...

    I just bought an M38A1

Fully restored, all original equipment. I won't go hardcore four wheeling, or on long trips with this, but I would like to go camping and head out to the local parks with it. Is there anything I can do to give it a top speed of like 65? Instead of about 50? Regear? Bigger tires (not something...
