Any chance a sticking/failed injector would cause smoke to come out the intake? I ask as the intake bolts were loose on that side and I had soot on the exterior of the intake runners and an exhaust ticking that disappeared when I tightened the intake bolts. Kinda worried I have an issue in the head.

I will give that a shot. Do I need a specific glow plug tool for these? I have done plugs and injectors in my truck 7.3 Ford with just standard tools.

How much of a temp difference should I be seeing between cylinders? Also do I temp the head at the exhaust or the exhaust itself next to the head. I’m seeing wide variances in temp between the head and the exhaust manifold but not much difference between the cylinders.

I will try temping the exhaust Monday. Got church and fishing with my kids tomorrow. I will report back.

I had been driving it with no issues for about 300 miles. The smoking started the next time I started after tightening the intake back up. Maybe it’s a coincidence but I don’t know. Thing that’s weird is I had soot on the intake leaking between the head and intake manifold. Only the passenger...

I’ll try pulling the valve covers and see if something looks weird when it’s running. What I can’t get my head around is tightening up the intake manifold eliminating an exhaust leak ticking sound. If I were to guess I would say bent pushrod or valve problem.

Even when the engine warms up there is still a lot of white diesel smoke coming out the tail pipe. When I take it around the block I white out the road behind me.

There is zero blowby. Nothing coming out of the oil fill cap.

Weird part is it was kinda ok till I tightened the intake manifold back up.
