She won't start in the cold!

Okay guys, here is the latest. I realized that when I try to start my deuce that after cranking it for about 15- 20 seconds (even with the block heater on all night) I get a single puff of white smoke from the exhaust. And since I need to keep cranking for close to 30-40 seconds until I give up...

She won't start in the cold!

Okay, Guys. I appreciate the help. Maybe we are getting somewhere. Let me add (again) that for four years the truck has never started in the winter without ether. That is with fuel bought in the winter and fuel bought months earlier in the summer. It made no difference. The first winter I owned...

She won't start in the cold!

Sorry guys, I am a member of the National Ski Patrol and today I was on duty all day so I could not answer any of your questions. Here are answers to some of your questions. 1) The batteries are brand new. The truck turns over very fast. As fast as during the summer so crank speed is not an...

She won't start in the cold!

Thanks guys. I know my batteries are in good shape because I had to buy two new ones two weeks ago. Getting additive is no problem at all. My question is will additive help fuel already in the tank now? It is 5 degrees today so it would be a good test. Should I add it and let it sit for a day or...

She won't start in the cold!

I would have to figure out where and how to put that gauge and what kind of gauge. I do not use additives in the fuel. I thought since the fuel was fresh from the pump I would not have to. Am I wrong? Thanks.

She won't start in the cold!

My M35A2 hates to start in the cold. It has since I restored her four years ago. The only way I can get her attention is with shots of ether. I know some guys do that all the time but I think I should not have to unless it gets well below zero. I installed a flame heater hoping that would work...

    aftermarket m35A2 heater blower motor

Thanks for the work ODDave. I will be very interested in the RPM it turns. It would be great to be able to increase the blower/air output!

    block heater

Thanks JWaller, I was afraid of that since that is what I have been doing and it has been useless. I'm getting a screw in by the time you read this... Thanks!

    block heater

A few years back I installed a flame heater for cold weather starts. Not once has it ever even given me a hint that it works or helps. (Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Any advice on how to use the flame heater??) Anyway, I just killed both my batteries trying to get my Deuce started in the cold...

    Jumping a "Deuce"

Can anyone give me any advise on how to jump start my Duce with one battery charger (12V) and or two cars. Also 12V. I have been charging the Duce batteries for two days with no luck. The charger tells me the batteries are 100% charged but when I try to start it the engine turns over about two...

    Cummins cold start aid

So how long should I run the fuel heater before I crank the engine over on my Duce? I know it is different then the 5 tons but... The directions say to apply the heater AND crank at the same time. That never works for me. I would really like to be able to start it without the ether. Any...

    Cummins cold start aid

Great advise Shootiniron. I check both out ths weekend. I would LOVE to have the system work. It is not uncommon to have zero or below days and it would be great to know I can get her going 24x7. That's what I bought her for... Thank you.

    Cummins cold start aid

I am very interested in this subject. I had a heater kit installed on my M35 a few years ago and not one time has it ever helped getting the truck started. I just assumed I was doing something wrong or it does not work. Sometimes if the wind is not blowing too hard so it is quiet I can hear...

    Air compressor

Okay. Thanks everyone. It sounds like I simply loosen the two bolts on the front and turn the pulley until the belt tightens. I will give it a try tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

    Air compressor

Okay, I really appreciate your help but you guys are one step ahead of me. As I look at the compressor the only bolts I see are two that hold the pulley to the shaft that comes out of the compressor. The bolts look to be about 9/16 and they hold what looks like two "pulley center halves"...

    Air compressor

Okay. Thanks. I just took a quick look at it again and I have no idea where or how to move the pulley. Can another tool be used as a band-aid to get this done or am I going to need a wrench? I can't drive it now as it does not charge the air tanks for a long time. Thanks.

    Air compressor

Divemaster920, You sir are a beautiful man.. I just checked the belt and sure enough it was really loose. HA! That MAY be the problem because I drove the thing about 15 mi. before I started to get the squeaks. It must have been really close for a while but the 15 degree temps must have been just...

    Air compressor

Thanks guys! One of the first things I did was to check on the belts. They seemed tight but I'll check again in the morning. After I posted this I began to think about it and I remember seeing what looked like some oil seepage around what appeared to be a seem towards the bottom of the...

    Air compressor

I got my Duce (The General) all started today in the Upstate New York 15 degree (minus zero windchill) today and we were doing fine until I head lots of ugly squeals and squeaks from under the hood. It did not sound good. I could not tell exactly where they were coming from but it sounded...

    M35A2 not charging well?

Good idea. Do those grounds go directly from the alternator to those areas? sorry for the dumb questions..
