The 151s went faster but not much(60mph), I suppose the 38a1s would work going faster--they were a tough engine/design.

I had a m38a1 also m151,151a2.The best jeep is the 38a1 but i did sell it but at a loss.45--50mph is the best speed.

I think to test temp gauge--take wire off sending unit--ground it to block, the gauge should go to hot--of course this is with the key on/engine running--I don't say with key just on as that might damage something if you have electronic ignition?The TM has the info for everything you ask

I read somewhere where the contacts can become dirty/bad electro-connection from setting a good while, so to fix it, you move the lever back and forth several times to clean the contacts(I had the problem of no lites, so I did as described, so then my switch worked)

I put an A2 windshield on my m151 so I have electric wipers, the vacuum wipers were stop/go
