parking brake
There is a long skinny spring in the top right of the pic that holds, at least the inside shoe off the drum, maybe it affects the outside shoe too. I dont see how it could have come on by itself. If you have the truck on flat ground and a back tire with chocks in front and back...
stuff
I took mine off when I got my air force truck jonathan, the sibling truck to yours from Peterson AFB, and installed a pioneer tool rack. I don't think I knew what they were for. The white canvas straps that were on there, I may still have. I kept what I pulled off, its around here...
F-22 problem solved
someone mentioned the F-22 problems for the pilots. I now remember one of our members, a retired AF kernel ( I cant spell colonel right for sure) that the problem has been solved, appears it was in the flight suits.
flea mkt
I find them at the flea mkt, mostly jerry cans, plastic or metal, very rarely find the mounts but it has happened. Jerry cans seem to run around $10.
I am in a military town so that helps.
Suggest you put your town or city or region in your avatar/info area.
The two on my truck are...
let the force show you the way Luke
I have a 1987 air force deuce. I made it into a kinda Marine thingy cause I haul Marine Corps League folks in it in parades. I really like the 3 color woodland camo design and colors. Check out those GL ads on this site of all those purty 900 series trucks...
some more pics from the weekend
We lucked out again with the weather. My truck was surrounded by 4 deuces and 3 five tons. I slept in the bed of my truck and had 4 deuces around me with folks and families sleeping in them. Great weekend.
flip a coin
I would suggest ya wait awhile. Keep reading here and maybe find somebody that has one and get around one of these in person and learn more about them. I was on here about a year and a half before I bought one. I am on my second one. I just use mine for parades and displays...
2x4
Yeah you prolly should stick with the truck you got and save your money and not do that trail.
I just played tour guide for my brother and nieces from Houston this past weekend. We did the Air Force Academy and Garden of the Gods on Sat afternoon and Pikes Peak on Sunday. That's me on the...
4x4
I have done that pass at least twice in a stock 4x4 suv.
If two wheel drive, do you have a locking rear diff and aggressive tires.
Chuck Wells puts out great books on 4x4 ing in CO and UT.
He shows some roads that a two wheel drive could do but
I would not recommend Medano pass in a two...
not seen as a problem
I have not seen that be a problem. All the time I have been on here, haven't seen any threads about that. I have the lights on all the time when out with the truck and they seem kinda dim during the day. I try not to have the truck out at night, it is too hard for...
Congrats!
That is a great looking truck!. I was watching some of those. Congratulations. My deuce pretty much just does parades and it's a good thing to do. Be good to it, keep it clean. A veterans group in your area will probably want to adopt you. I'm from St. Louis and have relatives...
since you asked
you may want to check with the DMV on how you can register a 22,000 lb truck, recreational vehicle? It could get expensive.
Also, it has air brakes so ( I hate to bring this up....) you probably need a CDL.
A deuce has air pressure over hydraulic brakes so we with deuces don't...
gots to get one.....
I was looking at those, man were they beautiful.
I wonder how much more it would cost me to register per year for an 11 ton truck as opposed to my 6.5 ton truck.
rebuild program
Oshkosh has a program where they bring the HEMTTs back to their factory and tear them down and run them back down the assemly line and update them.
These trucks may be hard to come by for quite awhile.... but who knows.
If you tell us more about what you want to do with the...
google your questions
Read here, read some more on this site. Keep reading and you will learn grasshopper. Look for mv clubs in your area and talk to them. Take your time. There is much wisdom in the words written on these threads. Google your topics you want to know about. Best of luck.
steet paint job
I used a sanding block to rough up the paint on the truck (was faded green) and would then take it up the street to the carwash and rinse it off and finish with the 'spot free rinse' mode and then used spray cans from Rapco. I did sections at a time and did it free hand.
wash it real good
I would think with the stock brush guard on front and the schackles hanging on it front and back and the pintel hitch, etc. that folks will know it is military.
I saw this truck in the staging area of a parade in Canon City, CO I was doing May 5th. Talked to the driver and said it does really well offroad, holds 1,000 gallons of water. Thought maybe it would help to broadcast this idea around the country. If I understand it correctly, they fabricate...
