HEMTT info, just passing it along.

I doubt any will be found cheaper than that unless they are squeezed into a 12x12 square.

    M51a2 dump truck towing capacity

I hadn't thought about the air capability or the air requirements of the trailer. Do all air brakes require the the same amount of air? Three axles would require more air than 2, but do lighter axles use less air? Nothing I would haul weighs more than 30k. Would the M51 handle a 15 ton trailer?I...

    M51a2 dump truck towing capacity

I know it is slow, and that doesn't bother me. I'm wondering if it will tow a 20ton tag trailer with a 15 ton load. Considering everything including brakes on it and the trailer are in good shape, will it do that? what is it rated for? I know the M35 is only rated to tow 10K and it can pull...

    M51 Dump truck questions

I wouldn't consider a flat tow unless the 5 ton had brakes. Then I'd be tempted if a deuce was all I had,but that is just me, I couldn't recommend it. Your location tells me there will be hills, if not mountains. Your deuce will not be moving very fast on any incline, if you make a video, think...

    Is this a good deal?

I think $500 is too much for an unknown transmission even if it was already pulled. I would install a used one, if I knew it's history, but unless you need the practice replacing them I'd opt for a rebuilt one with a guarantee.

86 m1031 hard or no sart

I haven't forgotten to check for the bypass in the recently slave jumped M1009. There is 6 inches of snow on the hood that has taken me out of the mood for now. I'm almost certain I've jumped it and others successfully. The batteries may have had a low charge, and probably were not totally dead.

    5 ton A1. With A mack engine

The old gasser 5 tons were converted to Macks. Not many of the gassers are left, but they are known to be about as thirsty as they get. I think that was a reason for the conversion along with everything burning one fuel. I have always heard the Mack was a good engine, but I never owned one.

86 m1031 hard or no sart

Have you tested the voltage at the GP solenoid? When the resistor is bypassed it must be 12v and not 24v. dependable, I believe I've started CUCV's with the resistor bypassed with a slave cable. Possibly it won't work if your batteries are so sulfated that they won't allow any current to pass...

86 m1031 hard or no sart

I have a 2008 ford that is troublesome, and I can't do a thing on it, except change oil. So it's very expensive for me to repair. Most repairs have cost me more than a good CUCV. Whenever I buy a CUCV, I get it because it won't run and usually hasn't for a few years. I have bought many from...

86 m1031 hard or no sart

I have removed glow plugs and ohm tested them to find that they had different values. I never tested the questionable ones like Cucvrus does(I wish I had), I have tested them in the block with a light also. This makes me question the voltage value supplied through the resistor if some use more...

    M985 article on TFLtruck.com

Thanks guys for clearing that up. Emmando, Did the HEMTT, especially the M985 have any particular problems? It sounds like the one that was assigned to you was a problem vehicle. Since it differs from the M977 only with the crane was that the problem? Thanks

    Glow plugs, and solenoid problem

Cucvrus, I have read your restoration posts and marvel at the lengths you go in your restorations. You are thee CUCV expert! I definitely respect what you have to say. If I was restoring this truck I would make it original, including the resistor too. I bypassed the resistor, because I don't...

    Glow plugs, and solenoid problem

what I mean when I say bypass the resistor is bypass it with 12 volts not 24 volts, by only using 12 volts there is no "full whack" ever. This protects your glow plugs from burning out because the resistor will let your 12 volt GP's receive over 12 volts in many circumstances, and when one burns...

    M985 article on TFLtruck.com

isn't the m985 just a m977 with a larger capacity crane on the back? what is a pacer item in your BN? sorry about my civvy background.

    Glow plugs, and solenoid problem

I have a tendency to look at electricity in a wire like water in a pipe where amps is the water and volts is the pressure. So it is hard for me to wrap my head around the thought of the solenoid turning off and on a few hundred times in the blink of an eye to flutter and buzz. Then complicate...

    Glow plugs, and solenoid problem

Yeah, I thought that before, and put in a new one a couple of years back. The problem, if I remember right was the temp sensor read hot so the glow plugs would not come on. Now they stay on too long. I'll read that trouble shooting section again, but it doesn't explain how the system works, like...

    Glow plugs, and solenoid problem

My sons M1009 has an issue of the glow plug solenoid not turning off when it should after startup. 1)First the truck would not start unless you gave the solenoid a whack. That told me it probably wasn't making good contact inside and we needed a new one. Got a cheap one off ebay and it didn't...

    Is this how batteries die?

Batteries die from sitting, especially with a low charge or no charge. They sulfate up. I saw where the military rejuvenates batteries by some high tech process and am curious how well it works. Anybody up on this?

what branch/unit did your cucv serve with?

How do you guys know these things? I have had a M1028 that I was sure was in the Marines and now am driving a M1009 that was AirForce, but I only know these things from the different paint jobs, stickers in the cab (like runway codes), or accessories that were common additions of a branch of the...
