    Air Brake Info and Troubleshooting

I had a couple leaky air tank drain valves. I replaced those with Tectran 110, stock number 90076. They look almost identical and seal very well.

    Air Brake Info and Troubleshooting

Now for the tractor protection valve. My truck developed another leak at the rear of the truck that I was able to trace to the tractor protection valve. On the top of the valve there is a bleeder, and when applying the service brakes (pedal) it would dump air out of there. The harder I pushed...

    Air Brake Info and Troubleshooting

The brakes on these trucks are wedge brakes. One of the guys at the local Truck Pro commented that wedge brakes are obsolete now with other self-adjusting brake systems. He asked if the truck was really old and was surprised when I told him mine was a 93 model. If you are completely new to...

    Air Brake Info and Troubleshooting

I wanted to share some of the information I have learned about the LMTV / FMTV air brake system. I encourage you to also share the tips/tricks/etc you have found. Please do not post troubleshooting questions in this thread, let's keep this one for sharing solutions. If you are actively...

    Headlights going out randomly

I did a bit of troubleshooting this weekend. I checked with my multimeter the amperage the lights were drawing on low beam and high beam and then compared this to two other FMTV's. On low beam it was drawing over 7 amps and high beam was about 10.5 amps. I replaced the 3 arm switch with a...

LMTV M1088 how to prime fuel

Oh gotcha. I didn't have the manual handy when it happened to me, so I just kept pumping that button until you could tell it was pumping up the fuel, pumped it some more, then fired it up. It was a little hard to start and had to work the throttle to keep it running, but it smoothed out pretty...

    LMTV fan vibration

It's just loud. As long as the replacement fan doesn't have the same vibration problem you should be fine.

LMTV M1088 how to prime fuel

Is there one? I ran mine out of fuel once and used the primer button on top of the water separator housing to prime it. Worked fine.

    Headlights going out randomly

I drove the truck today and after I got home I checked the breaker panel. There is a separate relay for high beams and low beams, so that would not seem to be the issue. There is however a 15 amp circuit breaker that feeds the headlights, number CB78, and it is auto-reset. After driving the...

m1078 to A1 driveshaft parts source

Interesting info in the doc you linked. I read through some of it. The LMTV rear driveshaft appears to be the most stressed, due to the length and angle. I haven't seen any photos showing a CV type shaft on the newer trucks, so I don't think that has been done on the FMTV's, but can't say for...

    Headlights going out randomly

Both good suggestions on something to try. I can hear the relay clicking, but that doesn't mean it couldn't have a contact issue or just be bad. oboyjohn - mine does have the 3 arm switch. I'll have to look at the breaker panel label when I get a chance and see if there is actually a relay...

    Headlights going out randomly

My headlights will go out while I am driving. As you can imagine, a bit of an annoyance! When this happens the running lights are still on, brake lights still work. If I flip the light switch lever off and on, I can hear the relay in the fuse/breaker panel clicking. After a bid of fiddling...

Added 2000# crane to LMTV bed

So a quick look at the specs says the crane you have is equipped with the optional boom to get the longer reach. 2000 lb at 3 ft and 857lb at 7ft. Did you have yours equipped with a 24VDC motor instead of the default 12V? Add a NATO slave plug to it?

Added 2000# crane to LMTV bed

That's an aftermarket solution, but looks like a good one! The "OEM" variant is pretty rare. I really like the idea of having a crane in the bed for loading tires, generator, tow bars, etc.

unidentified item in Battery box "What is it?"

Used to test the electrolyte on lead acid batteries. You test each cell individually. Mine came with AGM's so I took it out.

    Front axle leak ?

I don't think it would be practical to replace that seal in the field before you tow it. I'm not a mechanic (disclaimer), but I'd say you could rotate the wheel to where the fill plug on the hub is at the top, check the hub fluid level. If the fluid is low or empty then maybe it leaks fast...

Suddenly M1093 Brakes are stuck on

One thing that helped me find a leak was to run the truck long enough to build full pressure, then shut the engine down and work the brakes and park valve. It's a lot easier to hear any leaks without the engine running. How much are the brakes holding the truck when they stick? There are two...
