Nice idea, was just considering something like this during the parade the other day.
One question I had was why use the hooks at all and not just use the rubber rope like the regular top?
My dad had got into the local chapter of the Vietnam Veterans Assoc. and met a guy while doing a parade who said he drove the mule with RR during Vietnam. So the other day after a bunch of talking back and forth the guy brought over some pics of his days in country.

The operator's cab of a military towing vehicle hangs over the edge of the I-90/39 bridge over Highway 26 in the eastbound lane after an accident with a tractor/trailer rig. The vehicle struck the bridge railing, sending a shower on concrete chunks to the roadway below.
