    Wehring LMTV Mods

Awesome work so far, I like it. The only thing I have on you is a winch! Well, the stock winch is only 11K, so nothing special for a truck this heavy. I would like to see some pics of the interior work, seats, RAM mount, etc. I like that hatch too. Is the hatch water tight? I use RAM mount...

    Air brake question

Which FMTV do you have? The LMTV like mine does not have a cutoff valve for those front gladhands. Both the emergency and service have vented caps on the covers, so they are not supposed to be sealing them off either. I actually have this exact same problem with mine which I have been very...

    M1078 AO driveline vibration

Mine doesn't seem to do this. Are you sure it is driveline and not the tires or something? Might be worth checking the toe in just in case. If you crawl up under the truck and push/pull laterally the driveshafts near the splined joints, is there any noticeable play? It wouldn't hurt to shoot...

    No power to dash

Did you lose dash power when you hit the crank button, or before? Do your headlights still come on and/or the brake lights work? The manual says the light switch is the only thing that has power when the master power switch is off. I don't think that leaving the lights in the stop position...

Storage box for passenger side, inside cab

Looks good! I need to get back to work on my truck!

    Allison Transmission Info

yeah I am pretty sure I typo'd that one. I can't edit the post now.

    Check your toe in

I finally got around to checking the front toe in on mine. The passenger side tire was worn quite a bit from the center line outwards. I finally checked it and the toe in was over an inch! I adjusted it to be a little over 1/8", so hopefully the tires will wear better. I would recommend you...

    FMTV High Speed Gears

You said it feels the same from a dead stop, so acceleration is pretty much the same? How does it do when it start pulling a hill, does it downshift more? Even if it does downshift, with the change in gearing maybe it evens out?

Storage box for passenger side, inside cab

If you were thinking that it would be nice to have a storage box on the passenger side like the one on the driver's side, then check out NSN 2540-01-411-2142. It appears to be the mirror image of the driver's side box, with the latches in the appropriate position for the passenger side. I have...

Possibly No More Trucks from DLA

Specs for the M1078 indicate it is EPA certified, or at least I guess it was for the year in which it was manufactured. There are references to this online, but not mentioned in the operator's manual. http://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m1078.htm Not sure if that will make any difference, but...

4th of July fun on the beach

I second that. I have spent a lot of time over on Cape Lookout National Seashore. Everything rusts. Then again you do have a season pass there at Fort Fisher so I'm sure you are familiar with it.

M1078 Fluids questions for Fire Department

On #4, you could wire directly to the batteries. There are binding posts in the fuse panel / breaker area that you could use for low power accessories. They are on the left hand side. I used those to hook up a cigarette lighter outlet in mine, but I am not sure what amperage they are rated for.

    FMTV fan sound?

Same as what he said. Mine only engages when it gets up to temp and cycles on/off to cool as needed. I think air pressure keeps it disengaged. I say that because I can hear it release pressure right before the fan kicks in. Also, if you had some type of air leak then it would make sense to...

    FMTV (LVAD) floor pan reconstruction

On mine the floor pans are in very good condition luckily. The turret cover was sealed with a bead of sealant, even around the bolt heads. I did however find previous rust damage underneath the driver's side storage box. It looks like the metal rusted and formed cracks at some point, and the...

    FMTV legality issue?

No problems here in NC. Be sure to take all of your paperwork to the DMV: SF97, Bill of Sale, Insurance Binder (specific form that serves as proof of insurance until you get the insurance card in the mail), your Driver's License. Double check to see if your state requires any other paperwork.

Anybody ever won 2 auctions by accident??

too late to be of much use for the drive home, but don't freak out if you here an intermittent roaring noise from the front...that's just the engine fan engaging. On mine I will hear the air pressure release and then the fan kicks in. It mostly happens on longer inclines, the heat starts to...

    LMTV Air Conditioner

That will be pretty cool once you finish it (pardon the bad pun)! Let us know how the engine performs when the compressor is running, ie: any noticeable load or increased temps. Did you have a particular compressor in mind that you are trying to use?

Cargo Cover / Tarp Life Expectancy

Yeah I was wondering that. I may try to pop one apart if I have one that is in bad shape already. I am going to leave the cover off, at least for a while. There are a few rust spots where the support beams/poles rusted and swelled up so I am going to fix all that first.

Cargo Cover / Tarp Life Expectancy

Yep that looks like the stuff. Maybe there is a source for the plastic hooks/clips on the ends so you could make custom or replacements. All of mine look fine so far, no cracks or anything.

Cargo Cover / Tarp Life Expectancy

Thanks for the replies, that is probably what I will end up doing. I noticed the rubber cords/bungees are all similar but different lengths. Do they just make these things up as they go, cutting the cord off a spool and attaching ends? That might explain why they are all just a little...
