    My CUCV M1009 1985

You reminded me that it's time to get the roof-top tent out and heft it up on top of the truck.

What did you do to your trailer today.

Hauled some more gravel. A few days ago I painted the hub covers and put them on yesterday.

What did you do to your trailer today.

Got outside early before the heat to get the trailer unloaded. The latch design on the M1101 makes it difficult to drop the tailgate when there's a load pushing against it. :-| Then I discovered a major error on my part- with the tailgate down a 2" gap opens between the tailgate and the...

What did you do to your trailer today.

I used my M1101 trailer to run and get 3/4 yard of gravel. $28 vs delivered for over $300. This thing keeps paying for itself.

Well, since you have two and I have none, the only thing to do is to send me one of them. I'll even cover the shipping. 8)

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

As an Extra and proud appliance operator, that's some nice set-up!

    Who pays this?

I think I paid ~$750 before fees, sold the two HMVVW wheels for $400, so $350 for the M1101. That's 10x less!

Also, photobucket does not make it through the .mil firewall so you're excluding any military folks.

What did you do to your trailer today.

Took the trailer out on the interstate for a speed run with the new (used) wheels and tires. Before I left I dropped the pintle one notch on the riser plate and that seems to be level now. The trailer pulled nice, no sway and only a little bounce between 40 and 45MPH; other than that you could...

M1101/02 trailers: I need to change the wheels and need the exact size

The guy at the tire shop laughed at me when I asked if I could have a couple tires from their cast-off rack in back. Said he wouldn't use any of the tires for anything, even a trailer. I wheeled the tire in, and he said the same. I looked it over carefully and it looked good to me. Back in...

M1101/02 trailers: I need to change the wheels and need the exact size

The tires are on! Michellin LTX M/S LT265/75R16 tires that were free from behind the tire shop. Load range E too, so good for over 3400# each. The previous owner ran them under-inflated; you can see it in the pictures. They don't stick out to the side, and aren't sucked into the wheel...

    84 M1009 Blackout lights only 24v?

If you're restoring it then prioritize the blackout lights last- you don't need them to have a functional truck and unless it's completely dark outside you can't tell if they're on or off. Get a voltmeter and see what voltage is present at the light when it's on. You'll need a voltmeter...

....and many years later I scored an M1101 trailer from the government auction.

What did you do to your trailer today.

I rode my bike to the library one day and noticed an attractive woman and her attractive daughter fretting over a flat tire on their full size van. "No problem, I'll change that tire for you!" Using the stock lug wrench mind you, I kneeled down in front of the wheel and...

What did you do to your trailer today.

But I ALWAYS use anti-seize on the lug nuts, and my arm decides the torque, which is always enough and never too much.

What did you do to your trailer today.

Well the reason I used lock wire and anti-seize is that the screws are titanium or something, and they're threaded into aluminum. The lock washers are just redundant. I wish I knew how to mark and drill holes so that the two parts would go together at the end. I fail 100% of the time, and...
