Any experience towing 12 foot trailer with M1009?

Welcome to SS! My M1009 has a Class III hitch. I have a steel bed 18 ft double axle car hauler that I use to tow my M151A2 or my wife's M422. The maximum weight I've pulled is 5000 lbs and my M1009 maintained 55-60 MPH. The trailer has electric brakes and I have no problem stopping the truck...

    M1009 heater blower switch

The blower motor only has a few screws that hold it in. If it does test out bad, pop the thing out and run down to your favorite auto parts store, drop it on the counter, and ask for a replacement. There's a Delco number on the side of the motor that they can cross reference. Also, by walking in...

How can we help Sandy victims?

Warthog - I was very close to joining CERT but was told by my Emergency Coordinator that I couldn't be a member of ARES/RACES and CERT at the same time. Since I was so wrapped up with the FEMA classes, I chose to stick with ARES. I really wanted the specialized first responder training. Lax -...

How can we help Sandy victims?

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }a:link { } Please forgive my long winded post. I'm an amateur radio operator and I volunteer with the local Amateur Radio Emergency Services. I have been trained in Red Cross shelter operations, FEMA disaster response procedures, National Weather Service Skywarn...

Capability vs. Vulnerability & Sophistication vs. Complexity

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } My M151A2 was my first MV. My wife and I put 6,000 mi on it in 35 degree to 100 degree temperatures, heavy rainstorms with street ponding. After all those miles, my wife and I wanted a military vehicle with doors that lock, windows that roll up, and heat that works...

M151A2 Army Radio Jeep Unit Markings

Thanks for the attachments. I got in touch with a good friend of mine who served two tours in Vietnam. He dug up some pictures of his M37. I'm planning on duplicating the unit markings on my MUTT.

M151A2 Army Radio Jeep Unit Markings

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; } Steelandcanvas – thank you! I revised my thread using the information you posted. Nattalieleather – nice pictures! I'm going to check more into that unit – looks like a great web site that you referred me to. I can't make out the vehicle registration number...

M151A2 Army Radio Jeep Unit Markings

M151A2 Vietnam Army Unit Markings Reference Hi y'all! I'm in the process of preparing my MUTT for a fresh coat of paint. I'd like to paint unit markings on it to represent an Army unit in Vietnam. I've scoured all the images on Google and Yahoo and found very few MUTTs to act as a reference...

**2012 Florida Military Vehicle Rally**Fall Event**

Vinny - I'm coming over for the day with the M1009 so I don't need a camp site. Please put me down for 2 adult dinners and 1 child dinner. I'm looking forward to it!

    Advice on Buying a M1009

Those prices are way too steep. How much of a project are you wanting? Are there enough parts between the two trucks to build one nice looking and running truck? If you're in for some serious knuckle busting, offer $1500 - $2000 for both trucks. If he turns down your offer, keep looking. There...

MV’s needed for Convoy in Ormond Beach FL Sat 11/10

Hi y’all! I received a request for military vehicles to take part in a convoy following a wedding in Ormond Beach. The wedding is at Riverview United Methodist Church on John Anderson Drive. The vehicles will convoy from the church to the Halifax Plantation, about 10 mi away. The wedding...

Looking at buying an m1009, thoughts on price?

Welcome to SS! Nice truck at a nice price! If this is the truck you want, do the Doghead mod, change all the fluids, and enjoy your new truck! I like the sliding rear window on the driver side. Opening that window helps flush out all the heat in the summer. Front and rear lifting shackles are...

    Rubber track install

I don't own any armor or anything tracked, but I like flyxpl's suggestion. Would it be possible to custom fab a smaller idler wheel, or find a smaller idler wheel off of another tracked vehicle that has the same or similar bolt pattern? I'd hate to see you chop up a piece of history to make the...

    Class 3 reciever on m1009

Is a CUCV right for me?

Willfreeman - I hope you don't end up throwing too much $$ into your old truck. Sucks that you have to deal with so much rust. :-( Replacing brake lines is a PITA. Is there any way you could re-route the line instead of dropping the fuel tank? Might take some extra long brake line but might save...

    Looking for Mighty Mite info/value

Flattop - You are very blessed to have a nice Mite like that fall into your lap!! Please talk to Mr. Alred before you fire up the Mite. If you can, try to get your hands on a bore scope. The cylinder walls are chrome plated over air cooled aluminum jugs. Since the Mite has not been running...

    Looking for Mighty Mite info/value

:ditto: I've worked with Ron Alred. He is a true Southern gentleman. Mite parts are drying up fast. There are a few items that are M series standard, but most of the vehicle is unique. Flattop - You picked up that Mite for a great price! Good score! It looks like your new Mite is a...

    my current government vehicle build

Just a suggestion - check the dimensions of a M151 soft skin door and compare it to the door opening you have on your Jeep. The MUTT door might work for you, but you'd have to modify the driver's side to eliminate the opening for the fuel tank neck.
