Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

The GEP 6500 (Optimizer) will swap right in. Externally it's pretty much the same block. There's an extra oil pressure port in the valley and one on the front (for turbo). The CUCV v-belt system and other subsystems will transfer over. The metal is supposed to be stronger to battle the cracking...

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

For the technical part I wouldn't worry. The only difference between a 6.2 and 6.5 is the bore size. Block is the same. Legally... do you really think they will measure the cylinders or pistons with a micrometer? I don't. On the outside it will still be a 6.2 and have the same 6.2 and the engine...

    My (new) M1008...

I have a 24V starter laying around somewhere. It's a gear reduction one. I believe it is Chinese though, but it has only been on my truck for a couple of months. I will not be needing it anymore since I'm going 12V.

    Niek's M1008

Yes it is an electrical lift pump. Facet Cube at the moment. Will be replaced by a Carter P4070. Today we found a leak at one of the injectors. To me it seemed to be leaking from the injector body. We took it out, loosened the body halves and re-tightened them. New copper seal added as well. No...

    6.2 and 6.5 engine questions

I think you must have sagging engine mounts? On my friend's 6.2 with turbo with GM manifolds nothing was hitting the frame. We even added a 4mm spacer (6 with gaskets) to the passenger side manifold so it would clear the injectors. Wouldn't that just put the holes further apart, making it...

    Niek's M1008

Yesterday I was riding a long with Niek. After a hard acceleration at a stoplight the truck died. It wouldn't start. Checked fuel lines and confirmed fuel to injectors and after a couple of tries it started and ran fine. I'm guessing air is getting into the fuel lines? It has done this like 3...

    6.2 and 6.5 engine questions

I agree with @Ilikemtb999. Those are all good turbo choices. I went with the HX35 myself. Closed to GM8 specs from what I could tell, but a lot more efficient. Another option is a HX40II. A lot of people run those. It's a HX35 and HX40 hybrid. Definitely get a high flow intake plenum or make...

    6.2 and 6.5 engine questions

If your going to the trouble off polishing the rods, balancing and studding the block, why not add a turbo? Sounds like you're willing to put some money into this project? I'm pretty sure I've read a thread a little while back on The Truck Stop where someone measured flow on a ported head. It...

Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

I missed the opportunity. Maybe next time he's around. The relay is still switched by the glowplug controller card. Re-use the original wires. By the way, we swapped the belt drive for a 6.5 serpentine setup to make it 12V. 200A relays. We used the 2nd one for a "doghead starter relay mod".

Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

The truck hasn't been driven enough to tell, but I don't see why it would cause trouble. Plenty of people put (in-line) fuses inside the engine compartment. Relays as well. Some of the connector insulation, the ones on the glowplugs seem to shrink a bit due to heat. I see that as a good thing...

Engine compartment electrical upgrades - Let's see some pics!

I've posted these before, but here they are again. 12V conversion. 2x Optima Red Tops installed. New heavy gauge battery wiring. Big fuse between batteries and bus bar, forgot how many amps. We re-did the glow plug wiring. New glow plug relay and a fuse for each glow plug. I don't have up...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I've painted the Dana 60. Again. This time I used spray can 2K epoxy primer. Great stuff. To finish it I loaded up my pneumatic spray gun with 2K black paint. Turned out great. I'm finally happy with it.

    Niek's M1008

We have installed the couch today. Looks great! We might go back and have him give a go at the dash. Door panels he already said no to. Maybe we can buy some material and do it ourselves? The exhaust looks good. Not completely happy with it though. Niek is going to give them a call...

    Niek's M1008

Yesterday we dropped off the truck at the exhaust shop. It should be done today. We also picked up the bench. It looks great. As soon as the truck is back, it is going in.

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

If Rock Auto shows the correct pictures, only the Airtex 41618 and Delphi HFP906 are the correct ones judging by the lever. Then again, Globeworks also showed the right picture on their site. I'm guessing they order from RA and similar stores as well and never noticed the difference when upping...

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

I have this NOS HMMWV pump laying around. I won't be using it anymore. Judging by the lever, it is the right one. It has been a while, but I believe the tube with the yellow cap is for the HMMWV fording kit. It can be plugged off. If Rick is right, let me know and we'll work something out.

Rebuilding after 15 years of storage

I have mentioned it before, and in no way do I intend to advertise but try Richard at usa2you.nl. Don't be fooled by the .nl, he can get parts shipped to any (EU?) country and save you a lot of money! He'll get customs charges down and as he ships TONS of stuff yearly, he gets great volume...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Picked up my laser cut parts today. Exhaust manifold spacers for my friend (his injectors touch the turbo exhaust manifold) and turbo (HX35) flanges for myself. They fit perfectly.

My Turbocharging 6.2 diesel of m1008.

Thanks for the spacer idea! Picked up my laser cut parts today. They fit great. I attached the DXF files to this post for anyone to use. Note that the turbo flange is for a Holset HX35.
