Detroit made an adapter to convert from the canister to the spin on oil filter. The only filters that I have extra of are the inner and outer air filter sets. Let me know if you need any.
I used to have an M211 way back in the day. As luck would have it, I just stumbled on one of the manuals I had for the truck while "cleaning up". It is the original Army "Ordnance Maintenance" TM 9-1819AC. Looks to be for "field and depot level maintenance" of the...
The "LED Lights" topic has been going on around Steel Soldiers for quite a while now. Not to be a pain, but there is so much info on here and opinions of the same that the only way to absorb it all is to "search" for appropriate Threads. I will tell you that all M985's are 24 volt lighting -...
Very good Synopsis! (I know - it's probably spelled wrong) A lot of guys should read this and use it as a guideline - especially the items that, in hindsight, you say you are really glad you did. Also that all of the comments about people checking all of these things are not just that -...
Really - I never knew that my 5-ton 6x6 was wider than my HEMTT 8x8 and PLS 10x10. I know for a fact that the Oshkosh's (let's just leave the HET out of this) are only 8' wide. Never had any problem registering and driving any of them. Have to check into the validity of...
Hey 3500, I have the M985. It really is a fun rig to take out but I wouldn't want to drive it for a living. Depending what you have an idea you might be lifting out of the bed, the max radius might come into play, but if you can handle the 16' radius (the bed is only 20' long anyways plus a...
Thanks 123Mack. I always love to watch the old films. Talk about just saying it the way it was - no PC phrasing here - "blow him to kingdom come" - could never say that today.
Just an FYI for anyone interested - I found some pretty nice and fairly good size stiff rubber wheel chocks at Tractor Supply. They are normally about $13.00 or so and they had them on sale for $10.00 one time so I ran with it. They look to be very very similar to the military rubber ones...
This one is coming up pretty quick. A lot of the Touch-a-Truck events around here that I have heard of are during the week (maybe so there might be more "municipal employees" available to man the city trucks, etc.) which I have a hard time making. This one is on a Saturday on 5/9/2015 from 9...
Sorry Bikeman, I have HEMTTs, LVS, PLS and HET - the only ones with the same rims are the PLS and the HET. I think the HET has a different hub planetary gear set-up than the PLS (to handle the much greater GCVWR and ending up with a 45 MPH maximum and a 8 1/2 foot width). That means that all...
The only thing that I can remember being of big news about vehicle "protrusions", at least around here in the northern states, was a big hullabaloo about the older type of snowplow mounts when the snowplow was not installed. Big shakeup in the industry and all of the snowplow mounting systems...
Just FYI - All lighting on the Oshkosh PLS and HET (circa 1990's) is 12 Volt as well. The older Oshkosh HEMTT and LVS (circa 1980's) were still completely 24 Volt.
Hey Guys!
BradBMI - Not sure of a remote right now, but I will keep you in mind. Tell you the truth, the tougher part of the "package" is the remote cable not necessarily the remote!
Ambrose & Wildboy - Going OK. Just trying to catch up on work as I was out of commission for about 2 weeks...
I am not sure about the other series trucks (although a common "design theory" would not be surprising), but on my 1980's era HEMTT's and LVS everything including lighting is 24 volt. Somewhere between then and the 1990's when my PLS and HET were designed/built, the idea had changed to 12 volt...
My 2 Cents - Like the rest of the guys, I love the MV's, but they can be a bit maintenance hungry and as they are older, not the definition of dependable. If it were my daughter and I HAD to get her an MV, I would probably end up going all the way through it so I wouldn't worry about her - and...
You kind of mentioned it, juanprado, but I am most surprised that the emergency trailer brakes did not kick in. I may be wrong, but I thought that they were mandatory on all but the smallest trailers. 'Course that assumes that the "pull cable" is hooked up and hooked up properly.
I have to tell all of you guys on SS - this was a great thread! I just kind of browsed it for no other reason than to maybe learn something. I was very impressed about the real help that many of you guys offered. The pictures were great and will no doubt help a lot of guys in the future...
