    Screw-on style fuel filter

If you have a primary and secondary you would only fill the primary. If you only have one spin on then no. The theory is that when you fill by hand any contamination in the fuel is bypassing the element and going into the injection pump. Sure there is variation depending on if the filter is a...

    37x 12.50R 17 tire upgrade on CUCV

40's are the new 35's 🤣 They look good. How bad is the power with those? I felt like 37's were always at the acceptable limit. When I say acceptable limit I mean slower then a Prius but faster then a golf cart.

    Screw-on style fuel filter

I've had mine on for ten years. That's maybe 20,000 miles. Never been changed once. Probably many years past my comfort level but I have spares in the truck and it's waaaaay down on the list of things to do.

    Trans Shift Points

Sounds like it has no vacuum at the transmission. Classic symptom you are describing.

    NP208 Rebuild

I've pulled a 205 and 4L80 (seperately of course) with that garbage $100 jack. It's paid for itself. Sure I wouldn't buy one for commercial daily work but yanking drive lines out in a storage unit...it's boss. For a tcase I use a 2x4 under the center of the case so the front output sits...

    NP208 Rebuild

Like any chain case it's easy peezy. You could even pull it apart in halves out of the truck if you don't have a jack. If you don't have a good bearing puller kit now would be a good time to get one. I think the front output roller bearing in the back half is tough sometimes to get out.

Do you bench bleed the master cylinder?

I've worked in cars for 23 years and never bench bled. Vacuum bleeding solves a lot of problems. In my storage unit I have no air so I use a check valve bleeder in a small container filled with fluid. Pumpy Pumpy and it pushes the air out. Whatever it pulls back in it's pulling from a...

Different Way to Plumb Dual Fuel Tanks

Nice I have to see if I can mount mine there. I think the generator crossmember is in that spot.

Gen 2 Light Stays On While Engine is Running

Hey Good call, if it wasn't plugged in it's fine. So you are a step ahead of the game if they have been rebuilt. Time to buy a voltmeter if you don't have one.

Gen 2 Light Stays On While Engine is Running

Check your charging voltage in the truck with it running. It will only tell you the truth. Solid chance you may have popped the regulator by shorting it. Those plugs can be found anywhere. Simple fix, be sure to use a quality heat shrink but connector. If you are selling your truck then use...

Not mine, posting for another member

My opinion...now would be a great opportunity to acquire the proper tools including basic electricity knowledge. After getting a firm grasp on ohm's law and how to read a diagram, go through the entire truck and undo what has been done. Go back to factory, then test one system at a time. Trying...

    Nostalgic Air Brackets and Turbo

I think you're right. The 6.2 will never be capable of hurting a well built 700R4. Both of my trucks have 205s and it's pretty easy to mate them using a spacer so that pushed me in that direction. I also really like being able to dial in shift points and firmness with a click of a button. But I...

    Nostalgic Air Brackets and Turbo

I want to drive one with a 700R4. I know strength wise it's a downgrade but on paper it's great. Has good ratio spreads, low first, tall OD, lockup converter, and it's all hydraulic. For a CUCV that's a great match. In my mind I always want the beef but in reality when is my CUCV going to be...

    Nostalgic Air Brackets and Turbo

I went with a 4L80. I was dreading the tall ratio splits of the NV4500 and was looking for what you have but they are discontinued and nowhere to be found used. I imagine as far as a manual goes you have the best of all worlds. Super granny low, tall overdrive, and lots of gears in between. The...

    Nostalgic Air Brackets and Turbo

I know the price we pay! The AC and overdrive have been the best mods to my CUCV. Love cruising at 80mph with the AC on. Well flat ground anyway 🤣 Look on the bright side...it's still easier then working on new vehicles even with all that extra stuff in the way. I have a backhoe wall mount...

    Nostalgic Air Brackets and Turbo

Nice Nice Engine top end work will be a pain either requiring compressor to be pulled and flopped over or line removal. Just something to think about. Nothing better then sitting in a boiling hot CUCV middle of July with your leg melting to the school bus leather seat cover. But the AC is...

    M1031 Build

Knowing you can build that for maybe half in used parts and a lot of time, that's a lot for the money where you literally drop it in, set the timing, and drive. I went with Howell on my 8.1 and I thought the harness was very well out together, they built it exactly to the spec I ordered, and it...

    M1031 Build

Howell? Probably could just buy a reman 454 TBI unit, get the sensors from a junkyard and buy the right prom chip for it on eBay.
