Cracked Bolthole on Block for Starter

I completely agree, the torque and extreme shear loads on the bolts cause them to crack and eventually break. I replaced mine three years ago when i first got my truck along with adding the support bracket. This spring I reinstalled the starter after some unrelated maintenance and one of my...

Broken starter bolt, with a twist...

I'd keep going with the EZ-out but warm up the area with a heat gun or torch to melt the loctite. if it breaks you wont be able to drill a new hole through tooling steel so you'll have to weld a nut onto broken bolt.

Slight whiff of hot wiring smell

t ttyl Agreed, since it's during start I would at Ground and work backwards. Check your engine ground strap, starter connections, battery connections then back through start relay to the fuse block. Since you smell it in the cab mostly I'd concentrate on the fuse block and relay since those...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Replaced my blower switch today. When I took it out it just fell apart. Note that it doesn't come with the chrome knob so I found one on eBay for $12, ouch! Also installed some NOS seat covers I found on the same site. Now the interior smells like an old GP Medium, lol.

    Couple of questions

The -20P shows the routing if you're interested. I wasn't trying to critique your truck, just saw a potential problem. Cheers

    Couple of questions

"I was under my truck to take the starter out after breaking a bolt. I got new bolts and a bracket, but it seems that the threaded stud on the engine block for attaching the bracket is broken. Can this stud be replaced?" That isn't supposed to be a stud. Sounds like its a broken bolt in what's...

    M1009 Door Adjustment

Once the doors are installed you probably won't be able to feel it. But, no there aren't any spacers except the bushings.

    Broken starter bolt

Like Murph said, use a drill bushing so you don't mess up the threads. You can make your own with a pair of vise grips and an old deep well 1/4 inch socket.

How to bench test a fuel gauge?

When you move the needle using a finger it will feel slightly heavy but smooth. If it is hard to move or gritty feeling it's definitely bad.

How to bench test a fuel gauge?

It's not bad. Remove the bezel, I think it's 8 screws. Then remove the clear plastic and the 2 screws, if I remember correctly, holding the fuel gauge in place. Then just pull it out. You will see three screws on the back of the gauge, those are the contacts you need to clean with a scotch brite...

    Broken starter bolt

No special tool, just an old ice pick. When the bolt breaks off it isn't bottomed out , proving it's the correct bolt. So it can turn out easily using a pick or left handed drill bit.

    Another 1009 IP problem

Same thing happened to me. The overhauled IP I ordered apparently sat on the shelf for a bit when I purchased it. I cranked through a starter and a dozen man hours until I finally took it off and sent it back. Turned out to be a stuck plunger. They fixed it under warranty and it works like a...

    M1009 Heavy Maintenance Visit

I know it's been a couple years but since then I did the 3 tone camo and added two more antenna brackets. I'm trying to piece together a GRC-213 which is proving challenging AND expensive.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

CUCVRUS would be proud! After I had my IP redone and put in a new glow plug card, which fixed my hard starting issues, I removed the manual glow plug push button and fast idle toggle switch added by the previous owner. I then removed the electric fuel pump and installed a new mechanical pump. I...

How to bench test a fuel gauge?

Mine was stuck at 1/4 tank. I re-terminated the ground on the frame and cleaned up the three contacts on the back of the gauge and mine has been fine ever since. Hopefully it's not your tank unit.

Crazy! I've been looking for at least six months and his previous web site domain was invalid. I googled pvt jarhead tonight like I had 100 times before and it came right up to his site. Weird! Either way guys, thanks!
