Considering a m1009 as a daily driver, advice?

I was driving my M1008 daily for over two years until I came here to school, now I just drive occasionally. My driving was mixed city/highway where I normally hauled firewood and scrap metal. I also did a fair amount of towing, all while getting about 14 MPG combined. I will say one thing...

    Shifting issues

I don't know where you can get factory replacements. But I imagine that sections of steel brake line would work well if you just cut off the flared ends. The brake line is cheap and easy to bend so I'd suggest that. Or you could opt to stick with the rubber line and just secure it out of the...

    Shifting issues

The vacuum regulator on the injection pump might have gone out or be poorly adjusted. I don't remember all the details about it but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in.

Just picked this baby up last week (m1008)

I would suggest replacing the atf in the transfer case, power steering fluid and brake fluid. Be aware the brake fluid is more than likely DOT-5. The cheapest way to get DOT-5 is order it online. Who knows the last time the front wheel bearings were greased, so take them apart and check for...

    cucv losing power any ideas/help

Seems like clean fuel should be making it to the lift pump. It could be a bad lift pump, pinched fuel line or cracked/broken fuel line. It's hard to check the pump without some tools and a second person. But if you look under the engine on the passenger side in front of the starter you should...

    No Fire puzzler

Based on what you said about very little fuel coming from the cracked injector lines; I would agree that it sounds like you have an ip problem. Luckily, it sounds like the rest of the the starting system is squared away, so once you fix the ip you should be ready to roll.

    knocking noise

Look for loose or dry rotted body mounts as well. They can be quite annoying.

no start after 3 month sit

I second the jumping of the relay under the dash! Also it could be a bad ignition switch, if it's not telling the relay to send power to the solenoid.

Pros and Cons of a M1009?

I don't know if this is entirely true, but I believe some of the rear axles in these trucks had a locker. These can come in handy with the lighter weight of the rear end of the truck. Also as a Chevy guy, you probably know that normal parts are easy to come by at most auto parts stores.

    Help with Death Shake/Wobble

Wow. This could not be better timing, I'm having nearly the same problem. I don't want to hijack this but after rebuilding my kingpins (drivers side bushing was in 4 pieces, passenger in 2) , installing new brake pads and a new steering damper the steering is much tighter. But when I have...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Rebuilt the kingpins on my Dana 60. Not as bad as I thought it would be but it was an all day job. Now all the parts are a nice od green and the steering is super tight. :D The drivers side bushing was broken into 4 pieces and the passenger 2. I'm surprised the death wobble wasn't worse. I...

My CUCV spin on fuel filter mod

That my friend is the fuel drain which is there in case you get water in the fuel or need to replace the sqaure filter and want to avoid getting diesel everywhere. If you turn it counter clockwise fuel will come out of it, and clockwise should tighten it if it is leaking. I would try...

    Reverse Curve Front Spring Set?

In my experience, the springs on the 1008's and other cucv pickups normally have a slight downward "frowny face" look to them. You could add a helper spring if it concerns you or you plan on using a snow plow. Otherwise, I wouldn't be too concerned as it would stiffen the ride.

    Brakes Went Out

Never seen one with the outer surface gone. I don't think that'll pass state inspection, lol, good thing you caught it.
