    M1009 stereo install

There are 2 other options to hacking. I installed a $35 radio from autozone that has knobs like original radio. Not a great stereo, but works. The other option is to find a 90 or 91 dash and cut the radio section and install it in your dash. The later years used a single DIN radio.

    wipers are slow

Also remove the cowl trim and lubricate the linkage. After 25 years they get dry and stiff. The extra friction really slows down the motor.

    Hello from Scottsboro, AL

Welcome from a fellow Alabamiam. I live not too far in Haleyville. I am a form machinist (cnc and tool-die), but now I am a prosthetist and orthotist. My son has an M-1009 and we have a M-101 trailer. Start planning for the GA rally next October. There is nothing else like it. Glen

    My first heartbreak...

Pull a part generally has most parts to fit our trucks. They are all over the southeast US and are dirt cheap on parts. Pull-A-Part Locations - Pull-A-Part

Dash light bulbs - LED replacement

They are not LED, but I replace the dash lights in ours with red bulbs, including the one in the heater control. The trick to getting them bright enough to read is taking the cluster apart and cleaning it then painting the inside with "chrome" paint any where the light hits. The heater panel...

    GA Rally participants check in

Made it home finally @ 20:00 last night after sitting with the NASCAR folks on I-20 for hours. My son and I had a blast - broken truck and everything. Thanks a ton to Papabear for getting his truck back to camp. I have to go pick it up in Decatur tomorrow night where my brother in law lives...

Attempting Recovery From Huntsville Alabama to Phoenix Arizona.

I am 1-1/2 hours east of Huntsville. If you need to park it here for a while that would be fine. I am between hwy 72 and 278. A little off route, but available if needed.

If you had $1500 to upgrade a M1009, what would you do?

Add carpet or an insulated rubber mat. It makes a world of difference in heat and noise transfer. A power rear window would also be on the list so you can roll the window up and down from driver's seat while in motion.

If you had $1500 to upgrade a M1009, what would you do?

Turn up the injector pump and add a cold air intake. More HP takes more fuel/air. Also try adding CLEAN used motor oil to fuel tank when towing as there is more energy to burn then.

    2011 Ga Rally t-shirt poll/order thread

Black seems like it would be a good idea. Definatly no critters. MV's seem to be a popular idea for the logo. I'm partial to the M1009's. That would make a good logo. You might try incorporating some camo into the design as well.

Cherry boms how load are they?

I used to run them on my M1009. I finally took them off because they were very un-pleasent at highway speeds where I spend most of my time. They sound really good on the diesel, but they are extremely loud. I have a youtube video of it. my user name is aceplayspiano.

    CUCV Help in/near Central Louisiana

Same thing happened on my son's m1009. The spindle (wheel bearing) nut had backed off, ruined the wheel bearing and spindle nut and the locking hub. Fortunately we have a parts truck that had good spindle nuts and hubs. Hate to think what could have happened though. Good luck.

    Cry Baby Neighbors

Sounds like it is time to ride around town with a tape measure and camera, especially by city counsel members and and city employees (notably the inspectors). I bet at least a few have crew cab trucks, etc that are longer than 18'!

Terminal Board in back of M1009

I changed mine to 12 volt. I have an autozone gold battery that has both top and side terminals. I have the regular cables hooked to the top posts as the factory made it, but took the terminal ends from the inside board and attached to the side post terminals. I also moved the slave cable...

    Heater question

Timber, I just ran across your post here. If you need the switch or relay you can come get one off the red truck. BTW we have started our carpet project.

LMC Rear Window Regulator Goes Out In Record Time!

Converted to power window from a parts truck (including the factory wire). The hardest part was getting the 3 strand wire that runs from under the dash back to the tailgate out of the old truck, but it sure is nice to be able to roll the window up and down from the driver's seat.
