CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

Dragon, I am fairly satisfied that they are reputable (have viewed their web page, talked with two of their people. Sure, they could be snowing me, but I don't get that idea. California has a special number at DMV for lien sales. I called them today about this, and its probably similar to...

CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

Delivery is tomorrow morning, ten-ish. I will be able to meet the delivery truck - he'll call when he's inbound. Oh yah!

WARWAG, I hope your wrong - I just bought the truck! I'll post my success (or lack of) at DMV in a few days...

Great! Two CUCVs in my driveway! The neighbors are going to wonder (even more) about me!

CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

CJtroutt - Three tours? I appreciate your service! I was in Iraq in 2008 doing contract work from Camp Slayer. I sure do appreciate all the info that you guys have shared. I finally got through to DMV, and explained what I had - no title, etc. They said that with towing company...

CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

Fitz, Good info (from all - thanks!) Yes, it is a good deal and when this whole thing plays out, I'll share the details. For now, I'll wait until tomorrow and see if it was a GL auction - and if so, will they give me a form 97. Second option is to call the tow company and convince THEM to...

CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

Just sent an email to GL with the details. I just asked a San Jose PD officer, who has no idea. He says to call DMV (they never answer phones, though). Glen, I'll PM you the VIN. I ran it on CARFAX, and saw it has never been titled/registered.

CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

Thanks, Glen. Since California seems to do things the hard way, I am doing some checking with GL. I spoke with a rep just now who says if I email them wit the VIN, they could tell me if they had auctioned it within a day or so. BUT, they will only issue a form 97 to the original purchaser...

CUCV with no title or 97... Buy or run away?

Towing yard "owns" (lien paperwork) a CUCV, and has it for sale. No plates, no record of the VIN number in CARFAX. No form 97. If I bought this truck, could I somehow convince CA DMV to title it? Or would they believe it was a stolen military vehicle? Or would GL have a record of it...

So who outbid me? (eBay, 11/9/2010)

Just got a reply from the eBay vendor. He said "That is definitely my pictures and my description so for sure it is a scam." He told me he DID sell it, received full payment, and put it on a truck to Colorado on 11/18/01. He said he will put a flag on the CL ad as a fraud.

So who outbid me? (eBay, 11/9/2010)

I thought about that... Except the CL ad is posted in Modesto - 200 miles from where the truck was listed on eBay in San Juan Capistrano. Thinking the ad was legit at first, I replied with my phone numbers. No reply or call. When I noticed the photos matched the eBay ad, I emailed him asking...

    What is my 1985 m1028 worth .

I bid on this one last week. Finally let someone else get it for $7,200. Now that price was high, but yours looks sharp. Maybe $6K? M1008 Military 4x4 Chevrolet CUCV Pick Up Truck Diesel - eBay (item 140472307821 end time Nov-09-10 18:45:00 PST)

So who outbid me? (eBay, 11/9/2010)

Got a scammer on Craigslist... Claims to be selling the same CUCV I was over bid on from the eBay auction - he posts the EXACT photos from eBay, but is asking around $3K less. Here's is CL ad: (deleted per forum rules) And now the (closed) eBay auction: M1008 Military 4x4 Chevrolet CUCV...

    data plate

Randy, I looked at an M1008 for sale last weekend near Sacramento - the data plate said it was an M1009. He must have gotten your door.

Just picked up my first m1008

Congratulations on the win! Bargain price too. So, did you inspect the truck in person before bidding, or just bid and hope for the best? Where was the auction? How did you get it home? This morning, I rode from San Jose up to Dixon (near Sacramento) to look at an M1008. My expectations...

So who outbid me? (eBay, 11/9/2010)

I do appreciate all the feedback here. I was willing to pay more than a GL auction for the knowledge that this would not be a rusty wreck with a bent drive shaft, cracked T-case, dead batteries, crappy paint, oil pan leak, and then needing to pay to have it hauled across the state to get it...

Thanks, all, for the welcome! I've been doing a lot of reading, and learning here on these boards. I've also had the pleasure of meeting Cucvfreek in person. He has done some impressive work on his M1008. ABN173, Ft. Lewis is my old stomping grounds. I was there for a ranger reunion a few...
