    Another temp control issue?

What part numbers do you have for the thermostat and thermostatic switch that you installed? I didn't realize that there is more than one option for the switch. Thanks!

    Another temp control issue?

Yup that's the one I've been looking through. So I just went out to the shop and started it up. was still warm from the short drive a little earlier. started up at 160. same temp at the crossover and the gauge on dash. fan running right from the start. Earlier, when I started the truck cold...

    Another temp control issue?

how did you know the thermostat was bad out of the box? I bought a duralast from my local autozone. supposed to be the same, it fit but does look a bit different. they told me it opens at 190.

    Another temp control issue?

wow! my temp definitely does not drop down anywhere near 160 and the fan is running. What part of the engine should I be testing the temp with my laser thermometer? radiator cap is new.

    Another temp control issue?

is it really that much trouble to purge air out of the system? My heater valve is always on because the linkage at the valve pops off(dont care to deal with it). when I turn the heater fan on I get plenty of hot air. I drove the truck around a bit more. coolant level looks good. fan kicked on...

    Another temp control issue?

Yes coolant dropped a little, i filled it back to the cold fill line once the engine cooled off. Going to drive around a bit later and see if anything changes. all grounding cables I could locate have been cleaned and greased with dielectric grease. I also installed a massive ground kit upgrade...

    Another temp control issue?

ok, to start off. My temp gauge seems to work quite accurately. when it reads 200, the hottest part of the block that I can find(Using a laser thermometer) is at 206, just above the exhaust manifold. I just flushed the coolant. lots of tap water(high volume garden hose) with the thermostat out...

    water pump diagnosis/question

+1 on this inquiry. on my way home today i picked up a thermostat at a local auto parts place for $6.99. but i forgot to ask about the thermostatic switch. would it be the same part on 12v 6.2’s? i’m sure id have to modify the connectors.

    water pump diagnosis/question

thanks. i know the gauges are not to be trusted, only get reminded every time i mention one of them. however, since the temp gauge does move up the longer the engine is running, i figure it’s at least moving in the correct direction. maybe not accurate but still a functioning reference source...

    water pump diagnosis/question

based on your info, it would appear that both, the thermostat, and fan switch are faulty? knd of like they’ve switched places logistically . this truck has 8000 miles and nothing so far has appeared modified or replaced apart from tires and the new style controller under dash. i drove it around...

    water pump diagnosis/question

thanks, but shouldn’t i be getting some kind of flow when the top hose is off? the truck seems to hold a steady temp when running on water in between flushes. drove it around a bit to make sure. so i’m guessing that it does circulate fine when zipped up? or now i’m thinking that the thermostat...

    water pump diagnosis/question

i’m doing a coolant flush. already drained coolant twice and disposed. now just trying to flush out sediment. when i disconnect the hose going into the top of radiator, and turn engine on, there is no water flowing (radiator full). is this normal? also, i can’t seem to get any water coming...

    Coolant flush volume capacity

yup, after running another 4 gallons of distilled water i’ll drain and top off with the 50/50. ill return the rest to the store and try to locate some concentrate before winter. on a bad winter we can get down in the -20’s. any problem with residual old green coolant mixing with the new orange...

    Coolant flush volume capacity

I don't want to end up with 3 gallons of distilled water diluting my final mix. I was only able to find pre mixed diesel coolant near me. edit: finally found the capacity in TM. "The cooling system for the vehicles covered in this manual has a26 qt (25 l) capacity." Based on this, It appears...

    Coolant flush volume capacity

just drained my coolant. only about 4 gallons came out. Had bought 7 gallons of coolant(diesel spec) because I read that the 6.2 HMMWV takes 6.5 gallons. should there be more coming out? do I need to disconnect hoses? the coolant that came out is a deep bright green, looks pretty nice. was...

    fan not kicking on

Thanks for the detailed write up milcommoguy. the issue seemed to have cleared up(at least for a little while) after I added power steering fluid(which was a bit low). however, the problem seems to be back. but it really does seem to come and go. can the cadillac valve or TDM fail...

power steering level cold vs hot

i checked the level after having driven about 12milles. on an 80degree day. does it need to be warmer than that? my engine warmed up within the first few since it was idling in the driveway for a few minutes.

power steering level cold vs hot

Anyone notice this in their truck? when the engine is cold in the morning, the power steering level sits nicely at the "cold" fill line. however, when the engine is at normal operating temp, the level is then below the "hot" fill line.
