    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

Yes, I agree, that video shows how the Torsen differential gets rid of the discussed slippage problem all together, so no need for brakes for that application. And I do agree that a manual transmission is a pain in the butt when rock crawling as well as in NYC traffic. However I do not plan to...

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

True, I started driving farm tractors early on, tractors actually have a left and right brake for this purpose. But that's why in a HMMWV there is an option to lock the differential? I think it's the "L" selection on the left shifter? Or does that only work while the automatic transmission is...

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

Not quite understanding here. confused actually. Are you saying that the differentials on the M998 require brakes and throttle at the same time? is that only in certain settings? How is it that others have been successful? Just looked up Torsen Differential. It doesn't seem to involve brakes...

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

Yes, I do like to think that any question I ask will not only serve me but also anyone else who has it. And the more people that get use or entertainment from it the merrier! Btw, that was a great synopsis Tobash, Thanks! All of my vehicles,(except for the riding mower..) are manual. Maybe I...

    Manual transmission in a HMMWV

I've searched but haven't really found any substantial info about installing a manual transmission into a stock 1993 6.2 M998. What manual transmission would fit with the least modifications required? Any threads out there that describe a swap like this in more detail? Thanks!

Glow plug light stays on, engine won't start

So I tried starting it up the other day and the same thing happened. The "wait" light does not turn off and cranking does not fire up the engine. I installed a wiring kit that I made at my local welding supply store. used #3 welding wire(basically battery cable) for starter-to-block and...

Glow plug light stays on, engine won't start

Looked further.. so i'm now guessing that what you mean by ground kit is supplemental grounding cables connecting the engine, starter, generator, and body?

Glow plug light stays on, engine won't start

Not sure, looking up "HMMWV grounding kit" now.. It seems I do have what is called a "grounding block". it's what the batteries are directly connected to. Is that the same thing?

Glow plug light stays on, engine won't start

so I pulled the box out and opened it up. Looks like new outside and in. It's the yellow label EESS box. No sign of fried anything. I closed it back up, put a little electric grease on all the connector points and reinstalled it. However I did not think to disconnect the battery before doing...

Glow plug light stays on, engine won't start

The glow plug light won't go off and cranking shows no sign of firing. the batteries are relatively new and up until today the engine has started on the first crank. The only thing I can think of is that I was messing around the batteries(cleaning) and accidentally shorted the positive terminal...

    looking for full width beadlocks

I'm guessing that the two piece is what is currently installed on my wheels. Was looking into the single piece because of the wheel balancing difficulties I've heard about regarding rims with the runflat installed. But maybe the issues are mostly caused by excessive lubricant sloshing around?

    looking for full width beadlocks

Does anyone know where I can get full width beadlocks at a reasonable price? Other than PCV ones. Something like this:

original paint scheme HMMWV M998 Tan

Anyone have good quality pics(or links) of TAN M998s(or other) that are painted as per the "book/manual"? Or painted as per how you believe they should look? Mostly interested in the details, like for example the fuel fill bucket. I've noticed that on most of the later models the fuel fill...

original paint scheme HMMWV M998 Tan

Thanks for the response Action. by "scheme" I meant the combination of colors and where they were used. Are you saying that all M998s were initially green/camouflage out of the factory and only painted tan by the purchaser? Mine is tan everywhere except the inside(which is mostly green with...

Makes sense it probably varies. Thanks!

    X-doors with soft-top, idiosyncrasies

Thanks dilvoy! How much did you shim? More than an eighth inch? What material did you use? I'm thinking of using aluminum. Any pics?

    X-doors with soft-top, idiosyncrasies

I recently installed matching tan X-doors. Made strikers on my CNC plasma table, EXACT match to ones I borrowed, 9/16" round bar... The question is about fitment, it seems that the soft-top doesn't allow the doors to latch completely. the latches catch the strikers but only as far as the first...

original paint scheme HMMWV M998 Tan

Anyone know/have pics of original "factory" tan paint scheme for the HMMWV M998? mine is currently completely tan except for evidence of the windshield having been somewhat masked off. I'm guessing that the entire suspension/undercarriage as well as rims, radiator screens(but not grates), side...

    Front bumper shackle mounts

regarding shackle mounts(part#12342404) on the basic front bumper. What is considered the "correct" up/down mounting direction? And why? I have found many images of them mounted both ways. even found and image where on one bumper both mounts were installed in opposite direction from each other...

    CARC powder coating

Doesn't the high heat stuff require heat treatment to fully cure? I think it needs to be heated to like 300 degrees a few times for 20 minutes with 30 minute cooling intermissions in between?
