i believe out of the vehicle the two alts are identicle.they will interchange from left to right and right to left.the only thing different is the wiring.i don't have the experience to explain it.i do know i had a bad time years ago when we sent a military alt out to a rebuild shop.we installed...

on my m008 the isolated stud on the drivers side gen grounds directly to an intake stud. however the passenger side has one red wire that goes back into the harness and ends ??????

i suspect your rebuilt alt was rebuilt incorrectly for your vehicle.that single stud in the lower left corner of the alt must remain an isolated ground.if the alt shop grounded it the sparks will fly.been there done that.

thats interesting,on my m008 when the motor is cold the gen lights go completely black upon increasing the rpm.but when warm the gen 2 light comes on very dim and when the fan is on low and gets a little brighter at higher fan speeds.its more noticeable at night.no ill effects than i'm aware of.

not sure which alt. is generator 1 or 2 but i had some trouble at a parts store rebuilding shop for alternators.the military alts are different from civilian ones as the military has a stud on the back which i believe is a an isolated ground.on the drivers alt this stud has a small black wire...
