    Blowing up batteries

Thank you both for the quick replies. No, I haven't rebuilt the alts. I have been reading about those who have done it. They mention following the manual. Are they referring to the TM? Or is there a separate how-to concerning the alt rebuild? A Delco manual perhaps? Would this kit be all I...

    Blowing up batteries

Where to begin? My Gen1 light has been slightly lit for a couple weeks. Not brightly lit like it is when the key is in the accessory position, but just bright enough to be seen glowing at night. I've been getting a bit of belt squeal lately, so I figured maybe it was just a product of lower...

    Conflicting stories...

I'm picking the truck up tomorrow and having it towed to a different shop. I spoke with a guy at another shop and he started laughing when I told him about the sprag deal. He said, "I don't care if I do the work for you or not, but I'd get your truck away from there ASAP." So, it seems like...

I can't for the life of me make sense of what you're trying to say. Clarify?

    Conflicting stories...

The guy I bought the truck from told me the sprags are used in the 2.5 tons and up. Edit: Spoke to a guy who has been working on transmissions for over 40 years. Says the TH400 used two sprags, a front and rear. The numbers on my tranny are 41-7-52.

Wish I could tell you the numbers. I could call the shop and get him to read them to me. I'll do that, posting back in a few.

    Conflicting stories...

Hi guys, help me sort something out here. I posted a thread a week or so ago about having some transmission issues. I was wondering if the TH400 in the M1009 could be swapped for a non-4x4 transmission and just swap the tailshaft. The consensus was that it's not worth it since the torque...

    TH400 troubles

You said a 4x4 TH400...is there a mechanical difference besides a shorter tail shaft and the diesel gov? Thanks!

    TH400 troubles

Recently while cruising, I lost almost all drive power. Truck eventually stopped pulling at all. Coasted to a parking lot and put it in park. Back into drive and it caught, pulled, then stalled. From then on, when cranked and in park, the truck sounded like it had dropped a cylinder. Put into...

    Tire chirps

Thanks! I'll give it a shot.

    Tire chirps

Worth mentioning that I have a little bit of grease around the hat where the hub seams up past the wheel. Probably need to just get a couple hub rebuild kits and clear my plans for next weekend.

    Tire chirps

    It's a 1009.

    Tire chirps

Yeah, no noises at all through corners or 99% of daily driving. I was just curious as to why it would chirp in (what sounds like) the front if my hubs were unlocked. I may be mistaken and be hearing chirps from the rear end. Kind of doubt it though.

    Tire chirps

With the hubs unlocked, the differential is supposed to be open. This would allow both wheels to spin independently of one another, thus making no chirps. The rear end is a gov-lok which only locks when one tire slips. The rest of the time it's open as well. I could almost pass it off as the...

    Tire chirps

I noticed the other day that during tight turning on asphalt with my hubs free and in 2H, I'm getting a little bit of tire chirp. From my understanding this would be normal in 4H with my hubs locked, but this is not the case. Is this indicative of a problem?

    Gen 2 light

While the engine is running I'm getting 28 volts from the back of the passenger alternator, and only 14 or so from the driver's side. Is this still indicative of a problem? If I'm reading correct voltage from the Gen 2 circuit at the plug, then is it safe to assume that the only issue for my...

    Gen 2 light

Warthog: Yeah, it looks that way to me as well. The truck has been running fine without Gen 2 (of course) so I'll unplug the alternator just in case. The voltages from both wires are as you describe them, but still no light. It is worth noting that the circuit board at the Gen 2 connection...

    Gen 2 light

My Gen 2 dummy light hasn't lit since I've owned my truck. I have searched for threads regarding this and have come across a couple very helpful ones. When I started checking voltages, I found that my passenger alternator was not plugged in (the two lead plastic plug), and instead had a rubber...
