    M37 no power, good idle

Try Amsoil Z-Rod 10W-30 oil. Specially formulaed for older engines that need the zinc.

    2" receiver hitch on M37

Another minor addition: I added a brake controller to my truck. I chose a RedArc TowPro Elite. It will accept either 12 V or 24 V input while providing braking voltage appropriate for 12V trailer brakes. (Those of you with hybrid 12/24V systems, just make sure you are feeding it with the same...

    2" receiver hitch on M37

Those are Michelin 10.00 R 16 XL tires. Larger than standard. They were on the truck when I bought it. They are a little "over the top" for my taste appearance-wise, but I've gotten used to them. I used my truck in the woods, so the extra ground clearance has proven handy. I understand that they...

What did you do to your M37 today?

My next run to the "Solid Waste Transfer Center" will be in Brutus, so I can run him across their scales and see just how close he is to the book weight.

    M series coil failures

Well, I thought the purpose of the coil was to generate high voltage for the spark. I read somewhere about the imported coils being a bit on the short side, so not making good contact with the housing to conduct the heat away. Someone mentioned putting a copper washer/shim in and coating it...

    M37 Barn Find

I was debating doing an electric M37 when I started my search. If I had ended up with something basicaly sound, but a had a bad engine and transmission, I might have ended up going that way. I typically drive mine locally, so range is not a huge concern. So many of the electric vehicles I see...

    M37 Barn Find

He's just testing out the anti-gravity feature. Is that not working on your truck?

M37 Parking brake drum diameter ?

Whoops! THat's right. I totally missed that he was referencing the transmission and not the transfer case.

M37 Parking brake drum diameter ?

I just went out and measured the parking brake drum on my (mostly) 1951 M37. I got 7 3/4" diameter. (Note that this is just with a measuring tape, not a micrometer or caliper, so take that number for what it's worth.)

    2" receiver hitch on M37

Here is what I ended up doing. I took the Draw-Tite 41536 hitch noted in the previous post and had it modified by a welder (who has far greater welding skills than I do). He moved the receiver cross bar forward about 2.5" and up about 2.5 - 3" (dimensions are approximate). When using the trucks...

    2" receiver hitch on M37

I ordered a Draw-Tite #41536 receiver hitch. It was the hitch with the least amount of drop I could find rated at 6000# towing weight / 600# tongue weight (10,000#/1000# with weight distribution hitch). It has noticeably beefier construction than the 3500# rated Draw-Tite/Rigid hitch noted in my...

    2" receiver hitch on M37

Well, I finally found a couple of option for this. I'll describe the first one here. The second option, which required modifying an off the shelf receiver, appears in my next post, DRAW-TITE #75054 A local mechanic had a hitch from a 2000 Jeep Cherokee (not a Grand Cherokee) that had very...

Transmission oil or Gear oil in transmission?

When I rebuild mine, I think I'm going to try the Amsoil SAE 50 synthetic transmission oil. Charles at M Series Rebuilds seems to be a fan, as are several others with whom I've spoken. I've got 85W-90 gear oil in the transmission now. It is really stiff in the winter and takes a while to loosen...

Any help identifying this small articulated vehicle?

The new version of the Coot Was known a the Coot Two (or Coot2). It had an engine driven hydraulic pump and independent hydraulic motor driving each wheel.

Any help identifying this small articulated vehicle?

The Coot with stock tires has a ground clearance of 11". R3Fabis right about the problems in deep snow: If you drive through stuff that's too deep, so it piles up under the belly, it will just lift your wheels rght off the ground. On the other hand, the smooth belly meant that it would slide...

    Canadian M152 Camper/Bugout Mods

Fusion 360 has a free version. Just download the full version and register as a startup/enthusiast. It's a full-blown 3D cad program and takes a bit of dong to learn, but there are some great tutorials out there. Sketchup also has a free version. This used to be Google Sketchup, but they spun...

M37 Tire Pressure with 11.00R16 tires?

What tire pressure are folks running if you are using 11.00R16 tires? I have some old Michelin 11.00R16 XL tires that came with my truck. The previous owner said he ran 35 PSI, yet when I picked up the truck from him, the tires were at 50 PSI . I ran them for a while like that, and am now trying...

    New project

See Vintage Power Wagon. Look in their online catalog, Electrical section. Electrical starts with page 31. Look on page 33, middle column. New 24V ignition switch for vehicle type E, F. (They refer to M37 trucks as "Vehicle type E" in their catalog.) The also sell the knobs and the placard.

    New project

By "on switch" Are you referring to the battery disconnect switch, or do you mean the ignition switch? VPW has ignition switches. I've never checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had battery disconnect switch is also. As a temporary measure, you can get by with a simple toggle switch in...

    M37 Greek Harness questions

has anyone head from @minnhawk ? I responded here 6 days ago, and in a private message that I was interested in the harness, but have not heard back from him.
