What did you do to your deuce this week?

Worked on the truck Friday, got the new fuel line installed, and the pyrometer thermocouple installed. I ended up with an electrical guage, so I'll have to wire in 12v to it sooner than I had planned...Also unloaded the bed full of cut stone that came with the truck when I bought it, then swept...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Did an oil change, fuel filter change, air filter, new headlight, drained air tanks(first time), broke wiper air switch free and found out they both work nicely, just need blades, and bought a pyro for it all today. Going to the tire shop tomorrow for a flat fix, then I should get a new fuel...

    exhaust temp

The exhaust temp is a direct measure of the air coming out of the engine at that exact moment. You can coast and watch the temp fall nearly immediately. They are not going to show temp like a normal engine temperature guage, as they have such a huge mass of material and coolant to heat/cool, so...

Changing from DOT 3 to DOT 5

DOT 5 doesnt attract moisture like DOT 3 and should prevent corrosion in the system.

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Awesome! I dont have a clue to mine's history other than it had a Michigan title before the guy I purchased it from. I'd love to have a Kaiser, but couldnt turn mine down. I have a 68 Kaiser Jeepster Commando that was restored(civvie duty) by my grandpa and was his golfin rig. Figured it would...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Thanks! If I was gonna be in the area I'd come check it out! But i'll be down working on the truck and having cold beverages all week/weekend. Thanks! yea that is odd that you got the stripe too! Musta been a half-way common paint technique?

Changing from DOT 3 to DOT 5

Complete flushing with the alcohol would be the *best* way, but very costly once you start filling/bleeding it back with DOT 5, as you have to flush the alcohol out as well. Good luck with the corrective action! I think a huge warning label should be on all the brake fluid reservoirs saying...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

The previous owner had it for 5 years and never even put fuel in it, so i'm surprised it ran with 5+ year old diesel! So I doubt its had an oil change within the past 8 years. Hopefully no permanent damage has been done, but no oil leaks and the level is full(assuming it isnt half-diesel).

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

It took a few months of casual looking. I actually looked at the truck about 6 weeks before I made the purchase, and when I finally gathered up the cash, they hadnt had any other contact in 6 months. Only reason it was on craigslist is because the owner(older gentleman) had a younger helper that...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Thanks! I actually feel like I got a great deal. Paid 2700 for it and drove it home. It really only needed batteries and I was able to knock it down from 2950 for that reason. It also has a bed full of hand cut limestone blocks that I might be able to sell locally...or at least use as yard...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Hey! I actually live in KCMO, I just keep the truck down in Arkansas. Thanks for the direct TM links, I gave them a quick once over before I picked up the truck, and actually pulled one up when I went to pick up the truck in order to figure out the lights. I do plan to purchase all the...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

I plan to mechanically restore it, there is surprisingly ZERO rust on this thing. I shot all the hinges with some penetrating oil and every thing works smoothly. But i'm afraid paint will be on the very bottom of the list of things to do. Thanks for the welcome!

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Got a complete filter set ordered, new headlight ordered, and Kenny is gonna get me setup for a new fuel line to replace that entire copper piece. I've got a 4 day weekend this week, so I'll probably spend all day wednesday working on the Deuce! All i'll need to pickup is the oil, and double...

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

Not from another SS member, and I did say in my post that i'll copy them to the site ASAP, I understand this site has concerns with dead links and dont want to ruffle any feathers with my contributions.

Got my first deuce! Maintenance/build thread

I finally found a relatively local(40miles) and good condition deuce, all for a nice price! I'll try to keep things updated in this thread, and will post seperate threads with specific technical questions, if that pleases the mods. ALL corrections and criticisms are welcomed, I'm here to...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Ordered all of the filters and hope to do my first oil change when I get to my truck in a few days. As well as new headlight so i'm not running around like a pirate.

Fuel line, convert copper to hydraulic

PM sent, but I dont see the harm in posting the dimensions of the hose in here, save the price for PM if you want.

Fuel line, convert copper to hydraulic

Thanks for the search link. Any chance somebody has the rest of the information for sourcing a replacement? I'd happily go remove it from the truck and go to every part/hardware store till I found a replacement if I had my truck with me, but unfortunately I do not. Ah, the joys of working away...
