The mission was completed today. Got all the air lines hooked back up and everything adjusted. Took her for a short bumpy ride to seat the axle and make sure nothing is loose. Tomorrow I'll take her on a short road trip to see how she behaves on the hardball. here are some more pics.

The reason they have the short ones is to keep from running over them when backing up. The longer ones had a way to hook them up to avoid the same situation.

I have a Dodge dualy with a 28 foot lowboy and have pulled many deuces (including an M109) and never had issues. If I remember it is not too hard to bypass the scales on I-75.

There are bolts mounted on the fan clutch that you can remove and use to lock the fan in place. That will keep it engaged all the time. Usually used when, for some reason, the clutch won't engage when the temp get high enough. Have you checked to see if they are in place?

I take my super single tires to a local tire place that does big tractor and skidder tires. They removed tire, broke it down and replaced O-ring, put it back together and put it back on the truck for 50 bucks, O-ring included. Best money I ever spent.

Any engine painted yaller is going to cost big money to fix or replace. For what you will spend on an A3 you can buy a nice 900 series cargo truck or tractor. I moved up to the M927 and haven't looked back. I still love deuces but a FUBAR left knee requires an automatic now.

I have zero experience with the Splaterpiller engine in those trucks but you might call your local CAT dealer and see if they can give you some insight.

Having owned deuces, 800 series 5 tons and the newer 900 series 5 tons in my opinion the cost of owning the new 5 tons is about on par with a deuce when you consider parts are sometimes higher on deuce parts than 5 ton parts. A lot of deuce parts were built just for the duece and thus the cost...
