What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Rained out today, got bored and installed some of the led lights in rear of the 1009. 2057rzevoled and 194rzevo led, noticeable difference especially with turns and brake lighting, can't wait to get the rest of the bulbs and new flasher. I am also going to repaint the taillight buckets with...

    CUCV (M1009) Headlight Issue

My old eyes needed more light, first I added the lmc HD harness, it helped and gave me peice of mind that I wasn't going to smoke fuses or burn up wires. Then I upgraded to Hella 003427291 and those were much better than the sealed beams. Then I tried the rigid /trucklite 55003 lights and love...

    CUCV (M1009) Headlight Issue

I am also a big fan of the rigid 55003 headlights, the lmc 36-3580 harness and if you are still 12/24v look at the trucklite 24v series lights. 07392 floods, 07382 driving and 07397 spots, great lights on the cheap.

Drove my 4.56 geared 1009 2.5 hours on the turn pike at 65 mph from north lima ohio to home, tomorrow morning I work in toledo, ohio, then off to Dayton, ohio Sunday night. Averaged 15 mpg. I just love this old truck! But a 700r4 is in the future.

    block heater

Same way I plumbed my hot start tank style block heater, works great as long as your thermostat is good.

    block heater

The block heater just helps with a quicker easier start, if you are having heating problems after driving 20 miles it's probably a thermostat or heater core issue.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I also installed a set in place of my Hella headlights per cucvrus, they are great, and have a beam width so wide my brush guard casts a shadow. And not one person has flashed their brights at me.My older eyes love them.when it gets a little nicer out I'm going to switch them to 24v to decrease...

I'm really proud of my 86 1009, it has been starting at sub zero Temps in the morning. Without block heater plugged in. And it starts within 3 seconds. I credit the rotella t6 oil, good glowplugs and the solargizer for keeping the batteries healthy.also just put new 33x 12.5x15 tires on. I do...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I drive my 86 1009 that was regeared to 4.56 gears about 2500 miles per month, so I am changing oil monthly, I use rotella t6 and a 2 qt filter. I am considering switching to amsoil premium diesel oil 5w 40 and their extended life filter EAO76,so I can extend oil changes Any thoughts or experience.?

No luck with picts, sorry. While I like my tank style heater if I had to do it over I would have installed the temro freeze plug style heater. Lot less hassle .

Is 1/0 Gauge battery cable enough for a 12 volt converted CUCV? New cables time.

I think the roscommon conversion recommend 4ga battery cables, so 1/0ga which is more than twice the size as 4ga should be sufficient. If I remember correctly. ?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Not faulting the Delphi injectors just yet, but does run and start better with the tested Bosch injectors. I'm not ruling out bad ip.or lift pump yet. I was experiencing sporadic dry knock and blowing black smoke but just occasionally, once I added fuel additive it would clear up.I just decided...

Congratulations, your story reminds me of my first 1009 transmission fluid change. That stuff smelled so bad it about made you sick, but still shifted fine.
