Soni, with the jobs you do with the truck and all the places I'm sure you have to maneuver around would it be worth making a setup like the HET's where the rear axle turns? I'm not saying add a 3rd axle to rear but instead replacing rear most one with a steering axle.
another mod to help stability would be to convert it to A0 style dual 11.00r20's but that would also require doing away with the ctis, which might not be a bad thing given the reliability of it.
Or use a electric over hydraulic pump setup like a dump trailer uses, that way you just flip switch on and have hydraulic power even if truck isnt running. I have thought about trying this setup before, you would have reservoir/motor/pump all in one package.
wow I never looked into the price on them but I wasnt expecting that. I'm looking into a 17,000lb or 18,000lb unit but thats for my bobbed 923 which weighs in at considerably less than a stock one. I would say a 17K unit like the engo brand with a snatch block would have the power and you can...
I have also used the air powered die grinder with the buffer pads and lightly went over it to remove old gasket, just looked like your deck was polished almost smooth. (maybe just pictures doing that)
I think everyone is forgetting about Warn Olympus winches, I know some fire trucks run them and looking into it they come up to 25,000lbs

obviously most fire trucks would have the...
I have heard a few "old timers" say not to buff the block to a clean shiny state like it looks like you have because there is nothing for the gasket to grip then. Basically the surface has to have small imperfections for the gaskets to seal up proper, I'm not too sure on it but I was always...
I had a decent amount of rub on the pitman arm and the shield for power steering ram so I cut the centers out of a pair of A0 wheels to use as wheel spacers, then just use thimbles and nuts like you would with duals. I dont rub now but still might if truck was twisted up a bit.
I'm not familiar with how long your box is that your trying to use but if this helps I bobbed my 923 without moving the remaining axle back (basically the rear axle is now where the mid axle was) and cut the bed down to 10'6". I cant believe how much shorter the truck turns now (both the...
ahh I never knew about the axle width on it , thats why I only considered them for the rear of my truck to take place of dual wheels as I knew they would be over width on the front (if you could get them to clear at all)
ha ha I have probably had 10 people tell me that they were in military and drove deuces just like mine (m923 bobbed to 4x4) and how hard they were to drive with the no power steering or hard brakes etc etc...
Aren't the 24r21's DOT also? I had looked into a pair of them for the rear of my truck keeping 16r20's up front but didnt want the 1.5" taller tires in back, I had thought they were same height just wider originally.
Congrats and LOL I have heard that same type of story I dont know how many times. Husband or wife go to get snipped only to find out they already have one on the way.
Yeah but if he has access to numerous m939 trucks I doubt "buy a different truck" is the technical answer he's looking for. I also have seen the mogs go for $$$$ over the "normal" surplus trucks.
if you used the 10.26 gears with the 8.05 1st and 42" tall tires it would give you a crawl of 37 feet per minute or .42 MPH with stock 6.44 gears it would go up to 59 feet per minute and .67 mph
I'm not sure if it would help but they did make 10.26:1 gears for the axles.
Its a pretty decent change in crawl speed but not sure if it would be enough.
stock m923 with 42" tire (11r20's or 425/65/22.5 floats) 1.79 low range,4.17 1st gear,6.44 axle at 500rpm idle= crawl speed of 114 feet per...
