4L80e Upgrade
Here is my 4L80e experience
Started with a 1988 24,000-mile M998 that had been updated with the 6.5L NA, still had the TH400 and NP218.
The TH400 became a 4L80 and the NP218 was replaced NP241c, to allow the 2wd operation. Time will tell how the 2wd works, but lots of modern HD...
Crapgame- your research skills far outweigh mine. I found the original P/N's and MFG information from the TM, but was unable to find any of the sub parts. That quadrant gate is what I started looking for. I don't have a 4 speed shifter to compare is SxS with a 3speed, but looking at it from...
You might have to tweak this for your Transmission... using an angle finder, map out the angle differences through the gear shifts on the transmission (either the lever or right on the flats). If they are the same as the 4L80e, the only thing you might need to tweek is the 7-3/8" dimension on...
I used a NP241C, which is backwards shifting compared to the stock NP218 I had. But the stock lever worked, I just had to move the trunnion farther out on the stock rod. The 4L80e is only 1.5" longer so I assume that the stock shifter rod will work with the NP218 or NP242 cases.
There are no...
I added a legend mark (1" between the lines) and used the scanner to make a copy. I tested this and the printed copy matched perfectly.
1) Using this template, Cut a 3/16" steel gate.
2) Lever at Transmission needs to be 2" CL to CL
3) Stock 4L80E Shift Lever Bracket P/N: 12447182 (mounted...
I think I gave too much information. Too much of novel vs here is what you need to do.
1) there is no CAD at this time. If I can validate my template works, it would get in to CAD.
2) I will provide a high resolution picture/scan with a scale. A couple key measurements too, any measurements...
The original plan was to get a CAD file and have a company run a batch. Before I go down the path, I want to work with at least 1 guy who is doing a Swap to ensure that my final design worked with their transmission and no other interference's. I did the write hoping others would do it for sure.
I am in the middle of doing my 4L80e Conversion and will do a write up on that part of the project, but I was unable to find anything on modify the stock shifter. Here is my adventure...
Modification of 3 Speed Shifter:
One of my initial concerns with the 4-speed conversion was the shifter...
Never did did get one. P2P is helpful, but when crawling around a truck, paper diagrams would make life easier. I can’t believe no one had a clear copy they can scan and post.
This stinks, I've been lucky enough to assist both General Mac & Jeep Nasty with their trucks. Both of these are simply amazing, for different reasons. General is so well done it's like it rolled out of the factory while the Honey Badger is coolest modified vehicle I've seen. This is like...
Are you planning on the gun mount on the top? There should be room below passenger box for the winch. How long are you thinking? Keeping frame as is?

I rebuilt mine last year and worked well since. I shopped around and both kits came to 177.68 (after shipping). I then had my old dryer strip out while rebuilding and needed a new core...
I would go the new upgraded dryer if I could go back in time...

Drove in a local parade. Truck and trailer were loaded with people.
Every was safe and had a great time. These trucks get everyone's attention!

What is this 32k you mention, I'm not familiar with that one, just load or GVW? Wouldn't a 22k truck and 10 ton load put it at 42k lbs?

Great write up! I dislike the OE style valves (even thought they are a proven design long term), and will likely go this route or similar. Did you give any thought in to providing a safety to keep them closed? Very unlikely, but if one of these vibrates or gets hit open going to be a rapid drain...
I saw someone else removed the rubber washer on the cover. I did that and think it gives a little more light but not too bright.

I am resurrecting this thread to show my buzzer override.
I moved the low air light over 1 spot and put the override push button in its spot (I wanted stock parking brake light & override next to each other)
Many have questioned safety, but the buzzer on when the PB is engaged with in neutral...
I can not stand the parking brake fail safe buzzer! I've toyed with just cutting the brake wire to the buzzer, but I eventually I would like it to work, as a safety device.
For now, added a push button switch on the dash, next to the parking brake light. This switch is wired in parallel to the...
