    Dead Pilot's M36a2 Build

Also, when you start using the new diesel, be sure to add a lubricant like Lucas fuel treatment or other quality product with every fill-up. For cold weather of course you will want anti-gel.

    Dead Pilot's M36a2 Build

Here is what we would do: Hopefully it is the old diesel that did not have the bean oil in it. If so, it stays good longer. I think I would take some out into a glass jar to see if it looks off-color. If it looks good, I would add the prescribed amount of a good algae killer to be safe. Check...

    M37 Barn Find

Looks like a Mopar 318 polyspherical motor, but could be a 277 301, or 326. All of this series had the valve cover bolts down through the center of the valve covers. Probably '57 to '66. Good long life motors. Many parts the same as later year 318 LA wedges.

    Engine block madness!

We do not run pressure on all of our older vehicles. If the rest of your cooling system is in good shape you can do that and lower the risk of coolant leaking along with using a sealant.

    Head Resurfacing

Sorry, I cannot answer about the numbers location but the 001 is, if in inches, only one thousandth of an inch. They could not resurface the heads properly removing that small amount even if they were able to set up for it on the surfacing machine. Personally I would remove the heads then...

    265 Flathead Connecting Rod Bolts

Have you tried Vintage Power Wagons? 641-472-4665 Fairfield, IA.

Hair line cracks in radiator capgasket

The rubber gasket on the spring loaded part of the cap seals the pressure. Look for damage to it or to the surface down in the neck of the radiator it seals to.

5 ton winch roller fairlead assembly differences

All of my M series 5 tons have aluminum. We have never broken one, even pulling at about a 45 degree angle laterally briefly to free the stuck truck. I have never seen a steel set so I cannot offer an opinion of preference.

Temperature gauge, sender, or water pump?

I agree with HanksDeuce. Start by replacing the sending unit. Your IR temperatures are good. Check them wherever on the block and head there is water inside.

    trailer using M105 axles

Hi Toby Ummmmmm- will all of these projects we have in the works keep us going and not sitting around getting old too fast? If that is the case, for my part, look out Methuselah! You with your long life will have nothing on either one of us! :) My son and daughter-in-law say I have 80 acres...

How to not seal a tire / wheel properly

OH how many times I get frustrated and beyond having to fix what the guy before me did and did not correct it. It also seems it is most often something hidden that does not show up until it is a problem. Too many times also it costs me what it should have cost him because I want it right and he...

    trailer using M105 axles

Hi Toby I see no reason it could not be done. My only thought is that would the solid spring end anchors you keep on the frame have to be extended down a bit to make the springs sit level with the longer distance down from the frame you will have to have at the equalizer location to allow...

    Gear Oil for Braden Winch

I have a question: I see all the advice about not using gear oil in these winches because it will damage the brass (yellow metal) parts. I have used it in our truck winches with STP added to enhance shear strength and add zinc anti-friction molecules for over 30 years and have not seen any...

    M43 Ambulance - Distributor Questions

Take a length of #12 or #14 electrical wire, fasten one end to a ground on the engine, with the distributor cap removed, place the other end in the top center of the coil so it is a short distance, about 3/16 inch, from the silver button down in the center of the coil so a spark can jump to it...

    Spare tire area ideas

There are nice boxes behind the cab on M series 5 ton dump trucks. They measure 30" deep by 12" wide by 16" high.

    Spicer 3053a problem

I would suggest buying a good used transmission. If you do not want to do that, this same model is used in civilian trucks so if you go to a heavy truck repair shop they likely could help you with either parts or maybe an exchange rebuilt transmission.

    Braden Winch Problems

slk, interested to know if tightening the set screw fixed the problem. We all appreciate updates to posts that might help us with a problem.

    Farm Tractors in Military Service

Reference the question about military vehicles being used for farm use, my M37 and M715 have been used to pull a grain drill drilling wheat on cold days and pulling wagons. My M135 was converted with a dump frame under the bed for hauling grain until I retired it. I currently use my 5 ton dump...

    Farm Tractors in Military Service

As I understand it the Minneapolis Moline NTX TedG and doghead talk about was used on aircraft carriers. A friend of mine had one he went to Florida to get and then restored. I think he has sold it now.

    Farm Tractors in Military Service

I have a T-9 International crawler tractor with a military tag on it, probably mid to late 1940's. I do not remember exactly what the tag says. It was evidently an artillery tractor, has a large winch on the back. The T-9 was a gas engine model.
