    Swapping a 6.2 for a 6.5 NA.

What is this and will the 6.2 version go on the the 6.5 block? Swapping everything over from the 6.2 to the 6.5 motor. Everything is going OK but I do have a few questions feel for you guys. What is the part toward the back of the motor that is ran off of a vacuum line? When I pull it out it...

    Swapping a 6.2 for a 6.5 NA.

Got the stuck bolt loose today as well as removing the starter and radiator. Was a good few hours of work. Now I gotta go to work and continue work on the truck on Sunday. Sure wish I had more time to work on this but someone's got to deliver the mail!

    Swapping a 6.2 for a 6.5 NA.

First time doing anything of this magnitude. Got started on pulling out the 6.2 today. Got all fluids and electrical disconnected. Also got the flex plate bolts taken off. Ran into a stuck bolt on the transmission to the block. Sprayed it with penetrating oil and will take another hack at it in...

    Oil Analysis?

I bought a rebuilt 6.5 off of GL a while back and it included the oil analysis after it was rebuilt. It was kind of interesting but I don't think it is really necessary for the older diesels. I would think they would be more of use for the modern day cummins and duramaxs that cost half of a...

Saw this while browsing. Must of been one of those high performance engines! LOL! Daniel

    New M1009 CUCV owner!!

Durabak makes a tan bed liner that can be rolled on or even sprayed on. I have not used them but I plan on it. It is more of a soft liner than a hard liner compared to Herculiner. I got samples from them and it appears to be a quality product, not too pricey either. Nice looking '09 by the way...

    m1009 lifts and gears

I was kind of thinking 3 in the front and 4 in the back with 35's. Iv looked at a lot of the m1009's with 4 inch lifts and many of them look like they are sagging in the rear. Maybe that's just my OCD! Daniel

    m1009 lifts and gears

Thanks patracy, that kind of seals the deal for me! So when looking for complete front and rears what are some things that I should look out for? I'm looking for a mild off roader that can go 65 to 70 mph on the highway. Daniel

    m1009 lifts and gears

I too want to put 35's on my 09. How hard/cost effective is it to swap the gears in the housings? I have seen many axels on crags list and not to mention the local you pull its. Would it be easier to do complete axel swaps or re-gearing? Daniel

Need help identifying a 6.5 Engine

Yes it has the diamonds in the valley. Was definitely dumb luck! I thought it was the 97 block until I saw a Navistar 2005 6.5 listed in the classifieds. The pictures were the same as mine and the description was the same stating that it included rebuild papers and dyno readings. Thats what made...

Need help identifying a 6.5 Engine

After scraping more on the date code it looks like 06 09 K, which would translate Month/Day/Year or June 9th, 2003. Somewhere online I read the years start with H for 2001, skip I then J for 2002, K for 03 and so on. So it looks like the GL listing was off by six years which is ok with me! Daniel

Need help identifying a 6.5 Engine

The picture I posted is of the passenger flange area. It just looks like it starts off with two sets of numbers followed by a possible letter. Thanks for the quick response. I was hoping I didn't pick up a motor that would be more prone to cracking. Daniel

Need help identifying a 6.5 Engine

I guess what I'm really wondering is if it is a good block. I have read that there are good 506's and really bad ones. I'm also questioning how GL got the 1997 as the year. Thanks for the links, I have already checked those out. Daniel

Need help identifying a 6.5 Engine

I won a lot from GL a while back that claimed that it was a 1997 6.5L. I just wanted to verify that for myself because after all we all know how accurate the GL info is. The block casting is 12555506 on the driver side of the block but on the passenger side it really hard to decipher. It looks...

    Engine discussion again

Go for it! If you have done the research then do what you are comfortable with. I recently picked up a rebuilt 6.5 as a spare. The 6BT is on my dream list but having no experience swapping an engine so I decided I would keep it simple for the first one. Good luck with which ever way to go! Daniel

    6.5 detuned to a 6.2

I also got mine at Hooks, that place took longer to get into than I was expecting. Good thing I went there early. The block is a 506. I'm not all too familiar on which blocks are good but I figured with all the paper work that it came with it, that it wasn't a bad deal. PaulbusMax what are...

    6.5 detuned to a 6.2

Thanks Phil, I was planning on putting this 6.5 in my m1009. My 6.2 is running fine but plan on replacing it once it goes out or when I get tired of seeing the green can in my garage. This will be my first engine swap and looks like it will be a good learning experience! Daniel
