    POR-15 on MEP-803A?

Thanks. I didn't think of the operating temp. This might be a whole other beast compared to me going overboard with some old car in my garage. Yeah, can't say I ever had to replace an exhaust manifold due to rust. It's always due to some other abuse.

    POR-15 on MEP-803A?

Hello - Has anyone ever used POR-15 on a rusty MEP exhaust manifold? I did a quick search of the forum and didn't see a lot on this. I am buying a 1998 MEP-803A (reset in 2007) that is otherwise extremely clean and without any other noticeable rust. There's no functional issue. The...

Kohler RDT Transfer switch with Load Shed Kit

Ok, makes sense now. Thanks for the explanation.

Kohler RDT Transfer switch with Load Shed Kit

I've liked those guys so far. The magnetic latching relays shouldn't buzz or generate any heat to stay closed. I did look up the Generac SMM and they seem cool. Wireless control communication is interesting. I don't understand how they work without some kind of Generac ATS or generator...

Kohler RDT Transfer switch with Load Shed Kit

The good news is that the RDT ATS should start any 2 wire start generator. I believe it's the RXT that requires the RDC controller within the generator to even allow the ATS to start it. The bad news is that I am pretty sure those optional Kohler accessories require the RDC or RDC2 controller...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

Yeah, after having a chat today with a local electrician, he said around here it's not about violating any code. It's about just trying to minimize drama or giving an inspector having a bad day something to latch on to. He said it's entirely possible to have a dispute with an inspector where...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

I can only talk to "plans reviewers" who are not very helpful and frequently say the answer to any particular question is up to the individual inspector. It seems their goal is to hang up after 30 seconds. I might try to drive down there and go in person. I might find an actual inspector...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

That's a good idea. I am trying to find a smaller one-man shop type electrician that's been around for a long time in my particular county. I've used larger companies for things in the past and they haven't been much help. One guy told me to hide/move/tarp the generator which I thought was...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

That's good to hear. Florida building code doesn't seem to be a major burden. I don't even see where a UL listed generator is required for optional standby systems. I believe it's the city codes (where they exist) that can be a real pain but that doesn't apply to where I live fortunately...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

My utility doesn't have a formal program for this unfortunately. I'm trying to get our municipal utility to approve a device like this mostly because it ends up being easier for my particular situation than an interlock. I believe in my case the utility has to approve it, I have to hired an...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

I have been thinking about that. It looks like UL 2200 is only mentioned in the FL code book for commercial installations but that doesn't mean it can't still be a problem for me. Even for a portable setup, I think this means I would have to have the MEP out of sight from the inlet. This is...

    Florida Permit/Inspection for MEP installation

Hello, Has anyone here had any type of electrical installation related to your MEP that was inspected by a Florida county building inspector? Interlock, manual DPDT transfer switch, or even ATS? I realize a few counties like Miami Dade have their own very specific code related to generators...

    Mep-803a interlock setup

Thanks for the link. I am just about to pour my concrete pad next weekend. Perfect timing. Looks like two sets of these?

    Mep-803a interlock setup

Very nice setup. What did you put between the MEP and the concrete? Is that to reduce vibration noise?

MEP-803A connecting to my house with an ATS.

That transfer switch is kind of interesting. I wonder if my utility would allow an electrician to install the meter base retrofit version. I think I own the box but they own the meter. I don't see this on PSP's new website. I wonder if it's still for sale. The CX Series load shedding is...

    MEP-803A wiring into the home

For my indoor wiring, I ended up going with THHN/THWN-2 4 AWG for the current carrying conductors and 6 AWG for the grounding conductor. I am going to use a 70 A breaker since my wire is rated for that much current and I read a few posts here some can support surges up to that rating. From the...

    MEP-803A wiring into the home

That's a nice Fluke. I never saw one with a computer hookup. I made the mistake of buying the cheapest Fluke and it can't even remember/recall the peak current. And I think that was still around $100.

803 Bogs Down and dies at 85% Load

If you were using a load bank, how high would you go? Do you recommend X hours to then test to 100%?

    MEP-803A wiring into the home

I’m using a dedicated breaker with an interlock. New wiring to match the breaker.

    MEP-803A wiring into the home

I don't know the highest amount of current it can generate. 52 A is the highest I've seen someone mention. IMHO, if you're using a back fed breaker, the safest bet is to use wire to support the rating of that breaker. So, 50A or 60 A are the two logical choices. Making the wiring match the...
