we used one winch truck with gin poles to lift a d6c widepad (about 32000 lbs )with a blown engine first try it lifted the front wheels on the truck so we chained it down to the blade on a d8k and lifted it high enough to back a lowboy under it . remote operation wasnt an option that day , but...
my back hoe and my winch on it have the same type manual valve block and if you are using a set of gin poles on an oilfield truck and need to move your load an inch or less you dont control it by engin rpm ,your engine is set to your gpm of your pump and you leave it set there and use your valve...
you will get complete control by fethering the valve but it will take a bit of practice, watch sombody using an older backhoe they can move the boom with perfect control and there are fethering the valves .you can put in a variable flow control valve if you feel you need one . and i would not...
thats the place you all should tell noobs to go instead of just saying read the manuals it took me a bit of fooling to find it (im not to comp savvy) but lots of good stuff in there
i guess its to much work but i think evrybody would love a search that delt with deuce questions specificaly .tires, axle ratio, winch, headlights, charging system ,shift pattern anything a total noob would need to know without looking through hundreds of posts.

sounds like our experence with diesel or propain fueled heaters dont trust them. a burnt 200000 $ feller buncher is not a good sight first thing in the morning , if it geta past 35 below we let them run or double shift and work all night
ya the coupler jaws are probly worn on an angle that and the fact he has said he lubed it all causes it to jump out of gear . we weld up the dogs (what we call them anyway) grind them square again and your good to go
nice i wondered, ( i got the deuce in 84 and i should say my dad was in the army so that helped with the learning)i used mine to winch out firewood 25 to 50 cords a year for 20 years , 3 cords a load 10 drags or so per load probly 1800 to 2000 times i pulled that damm cable out.. sometimes...
i guess i have a different manual (cable can be rewound on drum by controling from drivers compartment or directly at winch) i re read the whole thing couldnt find anything in mine about second soldier ,though he could be a handy guy to have around
