    HMMWV Brush Truck Tragedy

Like MR's department ours is funded by our city's general fund. Our average budget is $110k. and we have 11 members right now plus we have members on the local search and rescue team and hazmat team. A brush rig is a min 65k so we jumped at the chance for a free truck. We're using a custom...

Looking for door parts and radio rack

Are these the door inserts that bolt to the b pillar and then use a cam lock on the quarter panel?

Looking for door parts and radio rack

We are on our way to turning our 998 two door into a brush rig and could use some parts. Here is what we need. 1, A radio rack that goes on trans tunnel to mount radio, siren control and switch box for items. 2, Either two sets of door hinges(bodyside and door) for a soft door for the...

24V to 12V For Emergency Equipment

I'll send you a pic of what's there but since we'll be spraying water from that area a battery there isn't an ideal choice.

    Oshkosh HMMWV upgraded suspension TAK-4

I find it interesting that TAK-4 is the same name that Pierce Manufaturing (fire trucks) uses for it's independant front suspension package. Just for fyi Pierce is right up the road from and is owned by Oshkosh. :)

    LEO + Municipal HMMWV Mods

We were explictly told to return for disposal once complete. Right now we're asking about what to do with parts we don't need. Can we recycle them or do they want us to return it to them or a local NG post? Example our two door came with the wooden sides and high canvas top. We'll never use...

    LEO + Municipal HMMWV Mods

Since we are one of those groups who got one of these units and are asking the benign questions I agree you should be able to purchase parts. You need to write your Congressional delegation and let them work on it, if they can get time to agree on anything. That being said as a taxpayer I...

24V to 12V For Emergency Equipment

Thank you for the write up, the issue is on a M998 is where would you put the 12V battery?

24V to 12V For Emergency Equipment

Mike if we could get new equipment the 24V wouldn't be as big as an issue but even though those lights can run up to 30VDC, the switchs can not. I did a quick search and a 24VDC lighted SPST switch was averaging almost 10 bucks a switch versus on average of 2 bucks for a 12VDC. We're looking...

    Adding Reverse Lights

Ok we were looking last night and noticed there are no reverse lights. That being said the "blackout" tail lamp section are still functional. We're thinking about one of the following: 1, Switching out the red bulbs for white and changing the wiring on the blackout lamp. 2, Get some 24V...

Volunteer Fire Department Turning HMMWV into brush truck

We are looking at a 50 Amp DC/DC converter, because we already have a 12V lightbar and siren in house that we can use. We also want to add some 12V scene lights for those nighttime brush fires.

24V to 12V For Emergency Equipment

I did a search on the vanner equalizer and I like the Vanner battery equalizer voltmaster 60-50A. I feel 50 amps is over kill but the price is reasonable. I'm going to get dims for the module and see if it will fit next to battery compartment where the jack would go. We are also going to see...

Ok, my bad, just trying to show what we had in mind.

24V to 12V For Emergency Equipment

Ok our first FD 998 question. We need to step the 24V down to 12V to run the radio, siren control ,lightbar, etc. We plan on using LED's for most emergency lights so the current draw will be low and the siren is only 100W. We're looking at a DC to DC converter like this one on...

    Police Dept. HMMWV

Nah not going to scrap this one. We found a paint that can be rolled or sprayed on. We're going for the Chicago FD style with black on top and red on bottom with the doors, brush guard and cooling inlet also painted black with red wheels. Our big thing is trying to get the 24v down to 12v for...
