Starting troubles, advice requested

For what it's worth, we've ditched the 12v automotive batteries for geniune milspec ones, when the weather turned cold on us this winter, 12v's just didn't have the cold-cranking power to get us started. We also had problems with fuel contamination or somthing along those lines so we started...

Dang, I wish the interior of OUR deuce looked that good! Most of the data plates are all bleached/scratched, I had no idea they were supposed to be YELLOW like that

    got the deuce registered.......

Antique plates on ours, that's a real easy way to go if your state has that option, registration is cheap, good for a lifetime, you're emissions/inspection exempt and insurance is cheap Downside, they cap your usage, to like 1 day a week, but they never come to check the odometer or anything...

    Share the Deuce Humor

Deuce or Die's story reminds me of the guy in San Diego that stole that tank......... LIke, how are the cops going to STOP you if you really wanted to make a run for it in a deuce? It'd be like that guy in Colorado who went on a rampage with a bulldozer, you basicaly have to wait for him to run...

    OD paint

When we wanted a quick "Spruce up" piantjob on our deuce, we used Gillespie as well, bought a 12 pack of a CARC-substitute in rattle cans. It's not as durable as real CARC, but it's a close enough color match and keeps rust in check, what more can you ask for? LD - Our deuce was parked outside...

    my first M35

If you're in upstate NY, you're reasonably close to Ken Kublo's Surplus, that's where we got our Deuce' from , he's just accross the PA line in Laurel Lake, check him out, if not for the truck itself, then for any parts you may need. Though, he's mostly got M35 series trucks, I did see a couple...

    clutchless shifting?

I've always been a quick learn at clutches, took me all of 2 days of driving before I had it down, I need more practice on hills though My view is, if it has a clutch, use it

how to tow a dead Deuce? air brake concerns urgent

I always manage to weasle out of tickets at the time of thier issuing, I just tell the cop honestly that I screwed up and don't give any excuses, I had Speeding (51 in a 35) knocked down to "Failure to obey posted signs" , fine, no points and I had an expired plate knocked down to a verbal...

why the neighbors positively LOVE us

We're really lucky, the "Shop" has 17 acres attached to it, plenty of room to park the deuce' and all our other "toys" And check out all that real estate, perfect for minefields, easy to secure LZ's and overlapping fields...

back home with the deuce! but that light switch..

That shift messed me up the fist few times I drove too, almost stalled in going for what I thought was 4th, but was actualy 5th. But luckily, the shift pattern is riveted to the dash if you're ever unsure :D

    Just curious - daily drivers?

Hoo boy, my family, much to the chagrin of my Mom has a collection of ever-changing vehicles, over the years we've owned/or still own the following -64' Triumph Spitfire (The car that proves dental hygene and soccer fan etiquette aren't the ONLY things the Brits can't manage) -70ish...

    Fuse for the temperature gauge

If I remember right, it was the one one the sending-unit end, not the dashboard end, I didn't acutaly see it, I was stuck inside the cab monitoring the guages while the other half of the garage (my dad) was fiddling under the hood. Apparently all he did was pull them apart, and then stick them...

    Bridgeplates?

Out of curiosity's sake, can anyone explain how bridgeplates work? I can find plenty of sites that sell old ones or reproductions, and I know where they mount on the deuce' (because ours is missing them) But what do the letters and numbers on them represent? I imagine it has somthing to do...

    new deuce please help

After a week of hard rain, the oil guage in our deuce' started to give funny readings, wild fluctuations, jumping between zero pressure and too much. We did what Pappa-G suggested and attached a cheap oil pressure guage we had lying around directly into the motor and went by it untill we could...

    Oil Change

LD, We had no trouble getting 30W from our local Advance Auto Parts store. We used Shell Rimula 30W, and according to the back of the jug, it's a straight-across compatible for milspec oil
