So now I can try for a recovery again. I am planning to do a fairly comprehensive brake overhaul, and I am looking to some members for advice. My only intention is to get the vehicle into a position from where it can be trailered. Unfortunately this may be up to 20 miles away on unfriendly dirt...
Hopefully this poster hasn't ruined opportunities for the rest of us newbies. As someone who is in the process of trying to recover my first deuce, I really appreciate the help I have received from the steel soldiers. While at first we may detect a slight bit of "know it all ism" once you open...
Steel do you have any local ideas for transportation? I don't know what it should cost to have towed. I need to move a deuce from Craig to Arvada. Same boat, runs but no brakes. Would love to meet your crew (MVCC) but y'all are so far south.
Vanniek - look at GL. You could prolly find a deuce...
The tires look wet on the bottom of the wheels. I think it is rain water maybe, but could be brake fluid from leaky wheel cylinders? I think she looks a little rough, but I would reserve judgement until you hear it run or drive it. What are your ultimate intentions with the truck? How many...
I wish I was smart enough to know how to do that! To be honest if I didn't find this forum I wouldn't know host post at all. Also if the site would let me upload pictures from my iPad I would have many more.
Thanks for all the help guys. I made it up twice, and have got her running. Now I just need brakes. It is a weird truck. An m275 converted to hold an m109 box. It has the 427 motor in it also. You can check my other post for about 30 pictures. Now I just need to finish and get her down before...
Hey, I am a newbie also, but I am in Arvada. I would love to check out the truck with you and would be happy to lend a hand if possible. If you read my other posts I have a similar issue with no brakes on the deuce I am in the process of purchasing. I have just started the degree program here on...
I am recovering my first deuce in a remote location from a private party. The truck was sitting for about 3 years. Unfortunately I am only able to work on the truck for about 8 hours every few weekends. I have Put new batteries in and engine starts. I have air pressure and oil pressure. My...
Thanks for the advice. I think I will be looking at trading for a M109 eventually. The M275 would have no use to me. I don't know if I'm ready for a full restoration. It seems odd to me that this truck has so many different parts put together. Would this have ever been done by the government? I...
I have to admit, that is pretty funny.
Yea it's around a hundred miles from Cheyenne. That is part of my dilemma. I don't know if it is best to have it towed, or drive it 250 miles home. Pneumatic bottle jack, impact wrench, bottle of co2, jack stands, and a large pipe. Will this work to replace...
Axlr8 - I may be taking you up on the offer come next summer. Gotcha on the dot 5. Silicone I believe?
Wrecker man - good info. It looks like the truck in your picture. What are the pressurized tanks on the passenger side? They look like the air tanks or something. The fuel tank is on the...
I'm a newbie, and I don't own any mv's yet. I came across a private party who owns a deuce and obviously became interested. We came to an agreement on a price based on my interest, but now I need to know what I'm looking at. I thought it was an m109 but the plate says m275. Does any one have any...
I did state I was un familiar with diesel. I have maybe started three ever. The principals of engine mechanics however remain the same. If the cylinders are not wet then hes not getting fuel. I later suggested the injector as an alternative. I don't own a deuce and was not in the military so I...
If you have fuel at filter then you need to check further down the line. Pull an injector? See if it is in fact spraying into the cylinder. I assume you are getting no sputtering when you are trying to start? If you have sputtering you getting some fuel, no sputter no fuel. You can also check...
Contaminants shouldn't be a big issue. I would think that a lack of lubricant would be the problem. The steel should be plenty hard and tough enough to overcome any clearance issues from pebbles or dirt, it is the pieces of hardened steel rubbing together causing heat and stress cracking that...
Have you bled the air out of the fuel filters, and fuel line? I can't really help in terms of the deuce but you need all the air out of the line, not just out of the pump. I would assume that lack of fuel is your culprit, since it started before and you only touched fuel related items. Now in a...
I want to say she said near Rand, but I could be making that up. I will be asking more specifics tomorrow. Asked for the picture. I'd love to go to a MVCC meeting but they are pretty far south for me. We'll see if I can find a reason.
End of the world right?!? I need to hurry the **** up, 2012...
Read that I shouldn't roll start her. Don't really like the idea of jumping starter to crank - but sometimes you gotta take a chance - thanks for the idea. Will stick with trying to hand crank - then jump unless complications arise.
Appriciate the idea on the glad hand. Have seen this once...
I expect the dash plate will probably be there. The picture I have seen made the truck look immaculate. Lady said he restored it side by side with national guardsman for years. I mean he took it for like end of the world purposes, you know if civilization broke down. I still expect critters and...
