FLU419 SEE HMMH HME Owners group

So two good uses of starting fluid in rapid succession. I like starting fluid for a number of reasons, not the least that it smells good. For whatever reason, the Winter SEE always squirts a little from its built in system at startup, and I don't mind one bit.

Strictly a recommendation, Ron, certainly not gospel. But if I had directional tires, I'd do it. Oh, wait. I do have directional tires...those crappy OE Michelins are. But the two main advantages don't apply there; if the fronts wear out faster by being run in the normal direction, that's a...

Nice! This gives me hope that lifting the spare into place with the backhoe is doable. Yep, still haven't tried. It's only been a couple of years.

That's close to what happened to one outrigger lever on mine last fall. It's not that it affects the lever next to it, but all of a sudden it didn't want to move much. So it was not after the machine had been sitting for a while. Haven't got around to figuring out the cause yet, so now I'm...

    Unimog FLU419 Tractor thing?

They're not really filters, but more like strainers. If for whatever reason you want to replace them rather than clean what you have, they are indeed available. Not that I remember from where, but I'll never forget how pricey they were. What's the reason you need to flush the system? It sounds...

Hate to tell you, Toolee, but if you go back about two years in this thread you'll find photos of a quick-tach setup and partial hose routing. I did it to run a snowblower, so no control valve involved, but check out Surplus Center (or a supplier of your choice) for options. Oh, and welcome to...

SEE - Cold weather hydralic issues

So grab your leaky cylinders, drive a bit north, and we'll have a cylinder cap busting party. Or maybe just a bunch of busted caps. Could be fun either way.

SEE - Cold weather hydralic issues

You're obviously working by yourself, too. It's nice, I think, but in a case like this the extra hands could come in handy. So to speak.

SEE - Cold weather hydralic issues

It's easy enough to make a wrench, or wrenches, but as you mentioned peakbagger, sometimes it still takes "all of the above".

SEE - Cold weather hydralic issues

You can always try a pipe wrench, but I consider that a last resort. As in "Good thing I have a spare cap, so ruining this one is no big deal". Come to think of it, a chain wrench might work and not leave the cap quite as badly scarred.

SEE - Cold weather hydralic issues

I made a feeble attempt on one cylinder some time back...and failed. Since getting the rod separated from the piston can be harder yet, I sense a trip to the local hydraulic shop coming up. I think there are three cylinders on the HMMH's crane alone that needs help. With the lack of a real...

If you mount the fronts "backwards" you'd get better longevity, and more importantly, better ability to back out of trouble.

Those valve stems should work, Ron. Just be sure to use the correct size grommet. For breaking the bead, I've been using a Hi-Lift jack, in my case under the drop leg of the HMMH, but anything heavy enough will work. If using a Hi-Lift, be sure to get the base as close to the rim as possible...

    FLU419 SEE Wheel Hubs

Not sure if there are any left, but I remember seeing complete new or rebuilt axle assemblies for sale at surprisingly low cost. You may want to poke around on the interweb a bit.

    FLU419 SEE Wheel Hubs

Sounds like you may have overheated the hubs, and I do remember reading that they like to spit oil out when driven fast. Are they back to normal after having felt like you were in 4WD?

    Terminus M1009

That's why I left the state. Well, one of many reasons, really.

    Terminus M1009

Okay, it wasn't with an M1009, or using a Bubba rope, but the one time I tried to pull a large forklift out (using two snatch blocks and an 8,000-lb. winch) I ended up slightly moving the 80,000-lb. building I used as an anchor, and ripped the rear cross member off the frame. It was a govt...

Garaging A FLU,,what do you do? STEEL garage companies experiance?

That one looks a lot like mine, except my end doors are at the far end from the front of the garage, not centered. Seeing that one also reminded me of one inexpensive option I really like; eaves. Even just a foot makes a difference in looks, I think, and it does keep some snow a bit farther...

FLU419 Owner/Operators in KC, Omaha, Des Moines Area?

Sounds like you would be using yours much like I'm using mine (quick attach, ditches, running hydraulic tools, etc.), except for the 3-point. The military videos show much of what you seem to be interested in, and I think all of it has been discussed in the SEE, HMMH and HME owners thread at...
