Strange sound coming from rear end

They are used all over the engine accessories, brackets, etc. The support bracket for the compressor/power steering pump, the alternator - in fact the long pivot bolt on the bottom of the alt - they used a Nord-Lock under the head of the bolt AND under the nut on the opposite side. Seen a...

Strange sound coming from rear end

I would absolutely address this - S&S/BAE had to put nord-lock washers on everything (A1+) attached to the engine to prevent "normal" vibration from causing every bolt to back out. If there is any question about driveline balance I would pull them and have them completely serviced.

Strange sound coming from rear end

The driveshafts turn at a pretty high rate - remember with the 2:1 reduction hubs the driveshafts are spinning at twice the speed of a normal truck with 3.90 gears. So given that statement - do you believe the thump/shimmy/bounce is at the frequency of the drivelines, or at the frequency of the...

    2008 A1R with 260a charging questions

I daily drive my truck and it's now been a solid week of driving every single day and the issue has not returned. So I hope that my anguish of 8 months of troubleshooting helps someone out someday. The takeaway here is that the Alternator, Voltage Regulator, LBCD, Batteries, and EVERY connection...

    M1083A1 Starting Issues

You'll likely want to replace those injectors. And with all that rust on the inside of the engine you should swap out the HEUI oil feed line to the updated CAT part with the filter element integrated into it and cross your fingers the HEUI pump survives - iron oxide is REALLY abrasive stuff. The...

    2008 A1R with 260a charging questions

I bought several surplus units real cheap from eBay and I have to say - other than the staggering lack of foresight exemplified in locating the pressure transducers on the circuit board instead of moving them off the board into their own environment - all the units I have plugged in have worked...

    2008 A1R with 260a charging questions

Had a scare this afternoon. Driving home from the liquor store and noticed the 28v gauge reading 30v.... awe @#$%$#! Then I noticed the 14v gauge was reading 13.5v and the 28v gauge wasn't rising.... it was steady at 30v. Strange...... I pulled into my driveway and left the truck running...

Newbie looking for a TM for a 2006 M1148 A1R LHS not found here in TM area. TM-9-2320-392-10...

Probably not that bad - Guam likely is similar to Hawaii in that lots of ships deliver to the islands out there and most leave almost entirely empty. So the rates to bring things back are not nearly as bad as you think. Any money they can recover on the return run is found money and so I'm sure...

Newbie looking for a TM for a 2006 M1148 A1R LHS not found here in TM area. TM-9-2320-392-10...

The A1R is a bit of Frankenstein - generally being covered partially by the A1 manuals, and partially by the A1P2 LTAS manuals. Since the A1R trucks were intended to become A1P2's either with a field upgrade to the armored cab, or sent back to the factory for complete refit, etc. As mentioned...

    2008 A1R with 260a charging questions

Ok. Have been diligently chipping away at this issue and I believe it is now resolved. 1. Swapped the alt. Found an ugly duckling on the cheap due to an upper mounting bolt thread issue (stripped), bent fan and fan cage, missing pulley and ground strap threads stripped..... Fixed all that with...

Gen 2 air conditioning install with C7 A1R - notes and pictures thus far.

It is definitely a bit of work. I have about 2 full days on the install spread out over a couple weeks as I have time. I would say the labor broke down about like this: 1. Fan, fan clutch, pulley installation. Includes dropping the lower fan shroud to remove the upper fan shroud, intercooler...

Gen 2 air conditioning install with C7 A1R - notes and pictures thus far.

The C7 is identical to the 3116 and 3126 as regards the crank adapter and the compressor brackets, etc. I installed a new fan (yellowed blades from the desert) and a new fan clutch when I installed the belt pulley. It replaces a blank spacer that is between the balancer and the fan clutch. This...

    Fmtv no more dual voltage

What year is the M1079 you are picking up? It could use either a PPD (polarity protection device) or an LBCD (load battery control device).

Gen 2 air conditioning install with C7 A1R - notes and pictures thus far.

I ordered back in November and it took about 5 weeks for all of it to come in. I would contact him and get an order started since he has them made in batches and many are spoken for before the web site gets updated with stock. He is the only supplier I have seen with the actual mil-spec...

Gen 2 air conditioning install with C7 A1R - notes and pictures thus far.

I'm told by a MotorPool veteran of 20 years that "soft cab" trucks were basically never equipped with AC. He couldn't recall ever seeing one in fact. The A1P2 armored cab trucks all have it and in fact AC malfunction is a deadline. The AC only has to drop the ambient temp by 20 degrees F to be...

    CTIS help

I was also warned by a 20 year motorpool veteran that you need to throw the disconnect switch anytime you are connecting or disconnecting the CTIS controller or for that matter any of the other computers (transmission, etc). If the pins don't all make contact simultaneously you run the risk of...

Hooking LMTV to shop air for CTIS troubleshooting

I would regulate the shop pressure down to 90 psi to avoid over-inflating the tires.

Can confirm. The box makes seemingly simple tasks take on herculean proportions. Basically anything like the hydraulic pump or the LBCD, etc require that you lift the cab, and drop the spare and then pretzel yourself into the spare tire bracket or squat on the rocker cover. It's like owning a...
