Good batteries are important. I'm sure 74M35A2 can explain better than I can. I had a set of old group 31's in my truck that were probably well past their get rid of date. On a warm day they would start the M923 as long as it started on the 6th or 8th rotation of the engine. Worst day I had...
I'm not one to stifle innovation but you seem to be going in two directions. If you have a good M931A2 in your sights and want to turn it into a dump truck, no confusion there. Wanting to bob it into a single rear axle truck is where I'm confused. You could keep both rear axles as built and...
Working on it is not hard. There are just alot more wires than an M923 and the drivetrain is electronically controlled. Cat C12, Allison 7 speed and CTIS. I've seen them taken down to the framerails quite often and made into a brand new truck. I like the video but only disagree with it's top...
If I had A/C and ran windows up to the GA Rally get together, my Deuce friends who roll with me may think I've gone a little too "high brow"! Since getting into the 5 ton community 3 years ago, I actually go to work on Monday following the 180 mile drive home on Sunday. They've let the...
Drove it to fellow member Welder1's shop. I'm going to summer camp with the National Guard soon and my better half didn't want it in the yard. For me it's no trouble to move around before cutting grass but she'd rather not mess with it. After getting it on fresh diesel last night, it cold...
The best help I can offer would be to take some pictures of my M984A4 interior. It wouldn't be much help though as the gauges are different, shifter is pushbutton, no doghouse in the middle, etc. I guess it could be used to show that even tan trucks come with green interiors from Oshkosh. I...
Eli,
Picture looks good. Not sure if you towed it just like that but if you did I need to give you a wag of the finger. I don't see safety chains. Basically you need to have chains that run from the front axle of your deuce to the rear shackles of your 5 ton in the event a towbar pin...
Increased my trucks value by $175 by filling up the fuel tank. Roughly 60 gallons of fresh diesel. I've been trying to get the old fuel out since I decided to quit running 50/50 waste atf/diesel fuel. The multifuel trucks love that blend but the NHC-250 smokes way too much on the mix in my...
If you were closer, shipping wouldn't be a problem. I don't have a 75 dollar one, mine would be free to good home. It currently has a 14R20 tucked in behind the cab but I've gathered the correct parts to make my truck a little closer to an A1. I will say this, the pole flexed quite a bit...
I'm not sure on current pricing. When I had my Deuce with a D turbo, I wanted a C that would sing it's song! I got one shipped to me for the low price of pulling a M817 from the local base and storing it for some time. Removing my D turbo was not fun as the exhaust manifold nuts did not want...
In addition to a cage, I'd recommend a good 4 or 5 point seat harness and a helmet. My last two wreckers, M1089A1P2's and now M984A4 have 5 and 4 point harnesses respectively. The Army figured at some point that rollovers are alot more survivable if you don't get tossed around too badly inside...
Glad that you found your issue. I was almost ashamed posting my experience as I'm normally a mechanic instead of a parts changer. I guess I figured if air was moving one direction to actuate the expello valve on the dryer, surely it could go freely in the other direction. Not always the case...
I work at MCLB Albany. I've seen the frame rails and every stage in between a broken truck we receipted for back to a ready for issue "new" truck of all variants. I'd love to have one but only a hand-full have made it out through the DRMO process. Those that have made it out are in really bad...
I can't wait to see. You gave Clint about a year of lead time. Hope you both have upgraded transfer cases before the race or tug-of-war takes place. It was nice to find out that the M915 front mount will be an easy swap. I don't think I'll ever need Big Cam power but if my one of my boy's...
Interested in an M939 series battery relocation kit for a reasonable price. I have considered relocating the batteries to the bed if the kits are made of unobtanium. I'm planning on bringing an MTVR towbar with 1.5" feet and pins but may end up giving it to PCTrans if he convoys with me again...
Only drove 20 miles today. After the 1/8 turn counterclockwise on the throttle shaft screw on my PT pump, I'm happy to have my 5 horsepower back! I feel like I'm back in the same spot I was at before I had my pump rebuilt. Ran the truck for about a year doing some heavy hauling of equipment...
Sure thing, drop it off next time you're down this way. I'm really not in a hurry, we can swap it at the Rally in October if our paths don't cross before then.
Found my bad air leak, now I need to fix it. Treadle Valve replacement time soon. It leaks into the intake anytime the truck has air pressure. Just can't hear it over the engine. If you press slightly on the brake pedal, leak is gone and it will hold air pressure until the morning.
